    Hop Strains - Southern California

Thanks for the information about Glacier. I am debating right now between growing Glacier or growing Centennial. I have Centennial on order right now, but I might consider getting Glacier if I can find more space. I may only be able to get 2 maybe 3 spots to grow hops in.

    Hop Growers in Southern California

Sorry for taking long to respond. What you are referring to is taking a cutting. Where you cut off binds and root them in either water or soil. You can either dip them in rooting hormone first or skip that step. Using rooting hormones tend to have a higher success rate, but it will cost you...

    Hop Growers in Southern California

Instead of taking rhizome cuttings I intend to propagate them via layering. If I understand correctly you are suppose to keep only 3 to 5 bines each year. The binds that you normally would cut off and discard are the ones that I use to propagate extra rhizomes. Hopefully, it will work out.

    Harvest from Stone Brewing

I have a bottle of Double Bastard in my refrigerator right now. When I first got the email from Stone I went to BevMo to find a bottle of Double Bastard. After looking at the bottles it seemed like there wasn't any yeast sediment at the bottom of any of the Double Bastard bottles, so I decided...

    Hop Growers in Southern California

I am looking to grow hops for the first time this year. I live on the border of Orange and Los Angeles County right along the LA river. Does Mt Hood do well in our area? Of the four varieties that you are growing which ones are doing the best? I plan on growing Centennial and I will try to...

    Hop Strains - Southern California

Do you guys think Glacier will grow well in Southern California? Hopefully my LHBS will stock some Glacier. I am interested in growing that variety. I don't have very much room to grow hops, so I am thinking of buying 1 or 2 rhizomes max. I was thinking maybe Glacier and Centennial or maybe...

    Propagating from cuttings

Nice pictures. I am looking forward to growing some hops this year as well. This will be my first year. I intend to buy a rhizomes and then root the bines that we are suppose to cut off and discard. I just wish I could find a supplier that would send rhizomes earlier. I read that hops can...

    Hop Seeds

Hello bellmtbbq, You could try: https://www.ars.usda.gov/SP2UserFiles/Place/53581500/catalogs/humseed.html This is the USDA seed bank for wild hops. They don't give out seeds for the standard varieties like Cascade. I think because the seeds are open pollinated and they could not guarantee...

    Help with increasing mash efficiency

Increasing the water to grist ratio will decrease the saturation of sugars in the wort. When you sparge into a brand new batch of water that water contains no sugar so sparging is a very efficient way to extract more sugar. Using a higher water to grist ratio works under the same principle...

    Harvest from Stone Brewing

I read a story on the Stone Blog that their yeast originate from a Canadian microbrewery in Oregon that shut down. They go on to explain how a person tried to take a bunch of yeast on a plane, but the yeast was over the weight limit. The person had to go to the bathroom and pour off some of...
