What to brew from Stuttgart, Germany?

In a month I have a german foreign exchange student that will be visiting and I want to do a brew that is big where he is from. I was thinking about doing a Vienna Doppelbock but use ale yeast instead so it will be ready sooner. I realize this won't be as good :/ So does anyone know what I...

    Should my wort taste sour?

I'm doing a Belgian Strong and it tastes really sour, the flavor has changed dramatically between my post boil and post fermentation, I can still taste the doughy-ness I'm supposed to be getting out of it, it just needs to sit for another 2 - 3 weeks before I even think about bottling. No...

    Tinseth formula question

Yeah. That's the formula, and I was doing it wrong. I'd just take the entire time I was boiling not just the time per hop... stupid mistake on my part heh. Thanks :)

Need input on my butter beer recipe

I would say a flaw is something done on accident. If I intend on using diacetyl to my advantage, I wouldn't call it a flaw :)

    Tinseth formula question

So I use the Tinseth formula for finding my IBU's and I realized something that I never thought of before: How do I calculate for hops added periodically throughout my boil? I never calculate for any hops added with less than 15 mins left on my boil, but what about if I add hops with 60...

Bottling from a 1 Gallon Carboy

I'm about to have the same issue, I'm just going to use my siphon and cap the end of it every time my bottle is full. I'm only doing a 2 gallon batch so it won't be too meticulous. I'm feeling confident it'll go well.

    Bottling Questions

I always use my bottling bucket as a secondary fermenter, seems to do alright if I add the priming sugar solution and stir it without touching the bottom. You just have to be REALLY careful.

Wort in water lock -- cause for concern?

Just leave it man. I've never had this problem but my girlfriend put down a bunch of towels under our carboy for my first batch because she said this happens quite a bit to her. The problem is, it might have happened DUE to infection. The yeast have a lot of stuff to eat up that isn't sugars...

Switching to bulk priming - what do I need exactly?

What we do is rack from our carboy and use a bottling bucket for a secondary. We also buy our priming sugar in bulk, saves us a trip every time we bottle.

Need input on my butter beer recipe

Yeah you can serve beer hot. In Poland they drink hot beer because they live in the mountains. I have to bottle so I'll be sure to let eveyone know how it turns out :)

I don't know what to make

You've already got a raspberry wheat, that's gonna be great for the spring. I second the Imperial stout though. Maybe start thinking about an Oktoberfest?

Will saving home energy ruin my beer!

Put it in your basement, although it will take longer to ferment it will still ferment better than if the temp changes a lot. Some people "cold condition" lagers for certain reasons (not really sure why) Good luck with it :)

Need input on my butter beer recipe

Thanks for all the input! I'm really excited about this. So when fermenting, what should my temp be? Its been in the low 30's all week here and its hard to keep my house at 68 degrees. I've got a little space heater but that would be hard to keep at a regular temp for the entire time. Any...

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

I used this recipe to make my MLT and it wasn't quite so cheap, in total it costed me about $75 after taxes. A MLT from the homebrew store here costs $90 for a 5 gallon, so regardless, I still saved a lot of cash. But a little more expensive than above. :) I haven't used it yet though, I'll...

Need input on my butter beer recipe

I'm making this for my girlfriend who is a huge harry potter fan and I'm just kinda winging it. I'm posting a 5 gallon batch but I'm only doing 2.5 in case it just completely blows. But if anyone has any input on the recipe I'd sure appreciate before I take the plunge into brewing it. :)...

    Original gravity too low? 1.022

My wort was at about 70 degrees when I used my hydrometer and it was after. Yes I milled my grains. Here's my recipe for a 2 gallon batch: 2lb 12oz Belgian Caramel Pils 8L 1lb 8oz American White Wheat 2L 11oz Belgian Caramunich 50L 6oz American Crystal 10L Also, My carboy is...

    Original gravity too low? 1.022

This was my first attempt at my own recipe and using an online beer calculator it said my OG should be around 1.048. I only did a 2 gallon batch just in case it sucked hard but I'm afraid that my 1.022 OG is way too low, I've never heard of anything being that low. Has anyone ever had a beer...

Not enough water in my fermenter!

So this is my third batch and I decided on a belgian Strong Ale. Also my first partial mash. Everything went great except I didn't compensate for an entire gallon to boil off! So when I went to top off to 5 gallons in my carboy I was a gallon short. Because of a push on time I couldn't boil...
