    Nano nano brewery question?

First of all, brewing commercially on a 5 gallons system is insane... but you probably already know that.. Second, I would tend to say that although unconventional and challenging on the logistics side, it could be a great differentiator to brew many styles.. I think there is at least one...

Need help with Brewer recipe error

Definitely overreacting ;) If you had mistaken black malt for the crystal, then yeah you would be way off base.. but crystal 120 for 80 is not that big of a deal.. The 120 has more of a burnt sugar character than caramel character, but really, it will be totally fine.. The 120 is not 'sweeter'...

New Hop Variety: Belma- Puterbaugh Farms

Here is an article from last year from a British brewer talking about Belma hops: http://www.brewersguardian.com/brewing-features/british/1091.html The brewer basically says he was not impressed with the hops.. He brewed only one test batch.. the few reviews of it are not that bad...

Local Chinese Malter - Available Grains = Need Help Translating

The burnt malt must be varying degrees of crystals.. as it is the only malt I know of that would be available both at 50 and 150 EBC with the same trade name, only the color changing.. I'd guess to say the Black malt is just that: Black malt (aka, Black patent malt). If you buy 1 sack of base...

Banjo burner not working with stock hose/regulator - works with swapped out hose/reg

Your hose must be faulty. Best scenario is that it is clogged, worst case it that it is leaking.. Either way it sounds dangerous. I say don't take chances and get the proper original replacement part or equivalent (30 PSI regulator + hose)...

Backyard Pro Outdoor Range: KAB knock-off or improvement?

I recently came across this burner: http://www.webstaurantstore.com/backyard-pro-outdoor-range-patio-stove-with-hose-guard/554BPHP17.html Very reasonably priced and looks very similar to a KAB4: - 17" cooking surface - 9" 3/4 heigh - 210k BTUs - 30 psi regulator The Backyard pro has a 8"...

    Hops smell like garlic !!!

Some high alpha american hops can develop a garlic character when harvested late. Some brewers like it and it can add a rough edge to an IPA that would be too smooth otherwise. If it is heavy garlic, I wouldn't use it as a single hop but as a 60 minute addition to add a background note it would...

    A Brewing Water Chemistry Primer

Wow these minerals number are incredibly low.. Even lower than pilsen water.. Most city do alkalinize their water to prevent corroding the pipes, so that's not unheard of.. The sodium should be watched for but the carbonates are only going to build some buffer in your water... Unless you plan...

    geltain

Irish moss is a kettle fining and gelatin is used after fermentation to clear up finished beer faster. They work differently and you can use both. Do some more research on each there are plenty of good threads..

    Hops Bush?

Well its normal to be bushy when you are not a hop plant but some kind of weed. You do have one hop bine growing on the fence. Kill that weed, but look carefully before pulling it, as hop bines could intertwine inside other plants... The pic is not clear enough to tell..

    Harvest already?

If you gently brush the cones with your index and thumb against the grain, lots of the small cone leaves should fall off.. That's one way to tell. Also, take a few cones between your hands and crush them / rub them hard.. then smell them. Do this everyday couple of days and you will see the...

    how long should CO2 last?

My 20# lasts well over a year.. Certainly depends on your usage but yeah i would suspect a small leak. A spray bottle with soapy water or star san is good to fin leaks. Check every connection carefully.

    What's living in my hops?!

Thanks for all the great answers. I learned something about ants! I didn't know they could farm aphids. Amazing. Aphids are commonly green, but the one I have are black.. I suppose the small dots are baby aphids too... don't see what else it could be.. Anyhow, it is not yet an infestation, I...

    What's living in my hops?!

Spotted these tonight on my hops. At first I noticed the ants, and it seems each ants are somehow guarding very small insects or eggs.. its small and looks like black dots to the naked eye.. Also we can see another bug.. maybe the same bugs as the eggs?? Sorry, I know nothing about...

    Quick Question on Dry Hopping

If you can cold crash, dry hopping in the primary should cause you no problem... I keg and dry hop in the primary all the time... A 24h cold crash will produce reasonably clear beer before racking to the keg.. In your case you will rack to bottling bucket but otherwise its the same
