    Grain Crushing Location

I now crush outside. Got a sweet pedio infection from grinding in the same room as the fermenters. Fricken infection was hard to rid myself of. New plastic fementers, hose, racking cane were required once it had taken hold. Luckily the batches infected weren't really ruined (tasted fine) but...

    Bottle Crates

I voted for $20 because I think it would give you a reasonable return for your labour. At $10 you would have to be mass producing these things to see any profit. I doubt you would have the volume (at least initially) to make that work. That said, I'm not personally in the market as I've gone...

    Cleaning OLD Grolsch bottles

I have lots of people donate old bottles to me in exchange for beer. Mold, cigarette butts, cobwebs and dirt are all par for the course unfortunately. I uses a bottle washer (restricted to 'dirty use' only) to pre-wash the worst of the crap out. I have a spare garbage can (plastic) that I fill...

Where to buy silicone tubine in Vancouver, BC?

I couldn't find any around Vancouver so I ordered from Brewers Hardware. At $2 per foot even with shipping its much cheaper than from Canadian Homebrew Supplies (which was the only Canadian source I found). The key to not being raped by brokerage charges is to ship USPS only. Sure they may...

    stuck mash....AGAIN!

+1. Barring using a bag this is one of the easier ways to prevent a stuck sparge. I use them for brews with a high ratio of wheat. You using a fair amount of wheat by chance?

Need examples of C02 tanks outside kegerators

Same here. Easiest way to go about it. If you are worried about condenser lines in the body of the fridge just do the corn starch test. That said, you are probably good to go as I believe all the lines are on top in a mini fridge. Mine is a full size so I can't really say...

Question about faucets. Perlick's vs. the others

Forward seal Perlicks FTW. I had some crappy rear seals before the Perlicks. Same as everyone else - sticky as hell. Once I got the Perlicks I threw them in the bin. I wasn't going to give those things away. Not even my worst enemy deserves them... They are that bad...

Grapefruit Pale Ale Recipe - Comments?

I've used Centennial to get some nice grapefruit flavour. YMMV but this is the recipe that I use: Grapefruit Bitter O.G. - 1.050 8lb pale malt extract 12 oz carastan malt 4 oz wheat malt 9 AAU Centennial bittering hops (60 minutes) 1.5 oz Centennial finishing hops ale yeast (Notty...

    band-aid flavor?

Never had a Brett infection so I can't say but I will add a plus one to what indigi wrote. I made what seemed like the perfect batch last summer. However I did not watch my ferm temp carefully enough (also July). I fermented the batch at somewhere between 75-80 degrees with Nottingham...

    To Thermowell or not?

Good question. I can't really see an advantage to going with a thermowell unless the stems are made from some nasty material that you don't want in direct contact with your brew. This is obviously not the case, so keep it simple and use a compression fitting with o-rings in place of the metal...

    Where to buy Little Giant

Used PlumbersSurplus myself. Not impressed at all. It took a month to get (!). I might use them if I was in the States, but never again Internationally. I had to swallow a huge brokerage fee due to their inability to read, which they then tried to blame on me. Nice. I ended up paying more than I...

    Medical O2 help

Ditto here. Its what I roll with. BTW what you have is not 'medical oxygen' it is 'aviator's oxygen' ;). Up here in Canada, call it medical and they can't fill it without a prescription. Ask for Aviation oxygen and they fill your bottle from the same tank that medical comes from lol. I...

    Possible infection?

Hard to tell from the photo but if it is infected its probably just pedio. I get pedio in my brew from time to time. It doesn't do much to it. Pedio is an aerobic bacteria. Therefore it will not grow in your beer per se, just form on top where it meets the air. This means no nasty chunks...
