Bent Shoe Brewing: From Broken Backs To Broken Wallets

You don't need a fast RO system, as long as you have a place to store the water. We're looking at a 60~80hl per 24 hour system, with 120hl storage. If anything breaks, we have a days worth of water on hand. No idea why you'd want to add the minerals to cold water, hot works a lot faster...

    Help me name my beer

From a quick look at your local history, I see: So I'm going to suggest: Howe Dark Seymour.

Bent Shoe Brewing: From Broken Backs To Broken Wallets

The water in Lincoln, while clean, can come from seven different locations. Soooo, we're putting in an RO system. That means that whatever's in the liquor tank, is basically pure. Since we'll be doing everything from stouts, to strongs, to IPA's, I'm planning on mineral additions as the grain...

You own a Honda Blackbird. I think mine's pretty obvious, given my brewery thread. The double entendre, of course, refers to my mental state. :D

Bent Shoe Brewing: From Broken Backs To Broken Wallets

I guess if I hadn't been on my fourth beer, I might have sussed that. Like a lot of the better systems, the HEBS will run your now hot cooling water from the exchanger into the hot liquor tank. Supposedly, due to the awesome insulation, we'll only lose (working off memory here) four degrees...

Bent Shoe Brewing: From Broken Backs To Broken Wallets

A 'brew deck' is pretty much the area you make the wort on/in. A HEBS, is a High Efficiency Brewing System. The difference in the HEBS, over traditional systems, (traditional being a pretty broad coverage here) is that the system heats faster, mashes faster, and boils faster than what most...

Bent Shoe Brewing: From Broken Backs To Broken Wallets

The brewdeck showed up on three flatbeds. Another cloudy day, so things don't look all bright and shiny. Offloading was a lot easier than the fermenters were! The mash filter was a little wobbly coming off, due to the weight. It's the long blue thing in the wide photo. And just lookit that purdy...

    Blichmann BrewEasy

Gas system, 5 gallon. To start, I put the water in the kettle, and put the lid on, and fire off the burner. This time of year at least, by the time I finish measuring out the grain and hops, It's still 20F under my strike temperature. Once it gets about 10F from strike temp, I take the lid...

+3F until the temps get close, then setting to the desired temp seems to work well for me. If you go for the desired temp from the start, half an hour later, you're still waiting.

    How to lock my kegerator?

That would be my attempt. Mcmaster-Carr sells it, and I can say from experience it works very well. On a clean, dry surface. :) (Don't get the foam stuff.) And that might be an issue with the VHB tape. I suggest a hair dryer or a heat gun before applying.

So what do you say as a father

Well... I bought mine with my paper route money! :D Never did manage to learn how to make them stick into anything though. :( Know how to get a musician off your front porch? Pay for the pizza. ;)

Hide the DVD of Red from her, and leave some Peace Corps pamphlets in your sock drawer?

    Rose hips - any experiences?

Only thing I can offer is that the hips contain vitamin C. So you'll have a certain level of tartness added to the beer.

Still thumb-twiddling while waiting for estimates on the various parts of the build-out. But the folks at Borges Architectural sent me a few interior renderings. Enjoy! .
