    Rice Hulls

I was kinda thinking: a: they're dirt cheap b: it can't hurt c: if we're honest Gordon Strong knows more about brewing than most of us combined. [emoji16]

    Rice Hulls

So reading "Brewing Better Beer" by Gordon Strong. He says he uses them in every mash to even out mash temp. I use them in wheat beers but does anyone do this normally?

    Aging saison??

I know from a freak accident my fermementation chamber will hold at up to about 110F. I think i'll start at 85 and ramp up to 90 over 2-3 days.

    Aging saison??

Mangrove Jack M29. I didn't want to deal with the stalling of the Wyeast and have had good luck with Mangrove in the past. As for why, i know it's not a huge beer but i thought I would get some hot alcohol taste I wanted to smooth over. Here is the recipe. Ignore the FG, beersmith doesn't...

    Aging saison??

Ok. So getting ready to do a saison. Target is 1.065 OG 1.007 FG (7.6%). I'm thinking in primary for 14 days then 60 days in secondary. Does this make sense? If I hit my FG should I cold crash before secondary or should I leave some yeast in secondary.

    Portland Stout Bout

So I live in Norcal and I made a New Years resolution to enter at least 3 competitions this year so 1st one is Portland Stout Bout so good luck to all that entered.

    Cold Crashing temp and duration

So, sort of related. IPA I did I racked to secondary being careful to avoid all the trub in the bottom. Cold crashed in secondary and had about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of yeast in bottom. Gives you an idea how much stays in solution and how much you're clearing out by crashing.

    In-line HEPA filter

That's what's with it but doesn't work too well.

    In-line HEPA filter

Ok. So I got this aeration kit off Amazon. The problem is the pump is terrible. One thought I had is a can connect it to a portable air compressor (jump starter/compressor I have for my car). The question is will that in-line filter handle the increased pressure? If not how hard would it be to...

Methods of Temperature Control For Fermentation

Hey how is your tilt? Been thinking about one.

    Generic yeast starter

Pictured is dry (S-04). I do starters for everything. I know you don't need for dry but I like it.
  14. WaltG

    Generic yeast starter

Ok. So in general I do the same starter every time for anything below 1.060 or so. 3 cups water, 4oz dme, 1/4tsp nutrient in a mason jar with airlock. I don't have a stir plate yet. I usually aerate and stir 2-3x a day. My question is will I improve the quality of my ferment if I dial in yeast...

    Keezer temp

I did notice if i dispense at a lower psi it is alot better so I think a longer hose may do it.
  16. WaltG

    Keezer temp

    6ft.
  17. WaltG

    Keezer temp

I only have cold side of my temp control turned on. Should I turn on heat too, I think what's happening is it's cooling to temp then dropping 1-2 degrees after.
  18. WaltG

    Keezer temp

Ok. I'll try that when i get home. I thought in water and thermowell would help with ambient.
  19. WaltG

    Keezer temp

In a bottle of water inside thermowell. Am I better off just insulating and attaching to keg?
  20. WaltG

    Keezer temp

So here's the deal. I converted a chest freezer and right now I set my controller at 39f. I have my probe in a 22oz bottle of water next to the keg. The problem is the beer is coming out at 33-34f which at 10psi got it overcarbonated. The question is can I assume that difference to be...
