    first brew started

So Re-read the instructions last night, and apparently I am supposed to transfer this brew to a secondary fermenter. So do I need too. For anyone interested i did the Nut brown 20 minute boil kit from MWS. I honestly don't see the point, the beer was pretty clear in the sample I took...

Well it was a little hairy but my nut brown ale is in my fermentor in my basement. No airlock activity yet but it's only been 3 hours since I dumped it into the bucket. wasn't a total cluster, Managed to avoid a boilover but definitely will be investing in a turkey fry setup. airlock...

two options really, use smaller tubing don't know how effective that would be. 2) get another lid and drill a hole in it to take larger tubing.

    How to get into Scotch?

As a scot by birth and owner of around 6-10 single malts/blends at any one time (money got a bit short this year so I'm down to 4) I would suggest you start with a decent blend like J & B or if you can get it McIvor isn't so bad. If you want to get into single malt I'd suggest Glenlivet 12 or...

    Brewing Math

Probably should be in the brewing sciences thread but anyway just wondered if anyone had any helpful math to help aspiring brewers. The one I don't know and have looked in Palmer's and Papazian's books is hoew to convert a recipe using DME into LME.

First brew : Choice of stock pot and other questions

I don't see the problem. with doing what you said with dissolving the extract in hot water and topping the fermenter with cold water. That's what I plan to do using a three gallon pot. You are going to possibly end up with darker beer and possibly not so good hop utilization.

    Question about water

Hi guys I start brewing next month (long story basically have to get my "brewery together bits at a time) I am looking at my City water report and don't see a bicarbonate level in the report. It does however have a line in the report saying "Alkalinity as CACo3" is this the same thing...
