    Frosted Flakes cream ale experiment

Major update! All the brewing stuff was already moved into the kitchen for the brew tonight, but I'm stuck hauling soybeans out of the field and working late. That being the case, my wife said she would go ahead and get everything started, but hadn't anticipated how late I'll be. So it looks...

    Frosted Flakes cream ale experiment

We're going for round two, with just minor changes. My brother is so in love with this beer that I'm going to go ahead and make a slightly bigger batch for his upcoming Christmas party. Going for about 4 gallons. 5.5 lbs. Rahr pale malt 1.5 lbs. Great Value Frosted Flakes 8 oz. white wheat...

    Lagering in the bottle

I should have began my first response with, "I hope you can do that." I went ahead and bottled my first lager last week and hadn't even the lowered the temp from diacetyl rest. It had been sitting at 65f for a week.

    Lagering in the bottle

I'm going to go out on a limb and say "yes". I think the worst that could happen is that your bottles have a little more sediment in the bottom than they would have if you had bulk lagered.

    The "Dear" , "Sincerely" thread

Dear Hydrometer, Are you mad at me? Why won't you look me in the eye? Why do you always turn away from me in the cylinder and somehow manage to keep the scale facing away no matter how gently I try to turn you? It is getting pretty frustrating, and accidents happen to hydrometers every day...

    Romulan Ale

Ah, yes. It is clear initially. Some creativity down the line will be in order.

    Made a bottle washer!

Same question. How did you secure the straws in their holes?

    Made a bottle washer!

Did you use the pvc glue to secure the pen tubes to the manifold? I'm thinking of building a second bottle washer. The cpvc uprights I used on my original won't work with my flip top bottles. I'm so spoiled by using the bottle washer that I can't hardly force myself to mess with bottle I have to...

    Romulan Ale

This sounds cool. I'm a big Star Trek fan myself. Be sure to keep us posted. After this you'll have to distill something green!

    Frosted Flakes cream ale experiment

Awesome! How was it tastewise? It looks like I'll be brewing mine again sooner than I thought. My brother's been talking it up and has some of our non craft drinking neighbors curious about it. PS I've never heard of a 100% oat base malt beer. Have you done that before?

    Dang it, so close!!

    I want that.

    Overheated wort

If it is just a matter of the wort hitting 185F with grains still in it, I doubt it did much damage.

    Auto siphon mistake - oxygen

Yep, try not to do that, but I wouldn't worry much about it.

    Frosted Flakes cream ale experiment

That's crazy. I just mashed mine like normal and wound up with higher gravity than expected. I did crush them by hand in a plastic bag first and ran them through the mill with the regular malt just for kicks, but I doubted that was actually doing anything.

What percentage of the grist did the frosted flakes make up in yours?

What came in the mail for you today?

:p Woo hoo! Hope it turns out good for you. My brother (who seems to hate everything else I brew) was just telling me earlier today how much he was looking forward to getting some more of that beer. He says it's really good....His favorite beer is Michelob Ultra though.

Way to warm up fermenting kombucha

You can get an inkbird seedling mat for cheap if you just want a gentle rise to about 10F above room temperature.

    What's wrong with my cider?

Hard to say. First impression is that it looks yeasty, which would be good. Are the darker spots hairy or fuzzy at all? If it looks at all like mold, Id be pretty cautious.

Anybody else finding themselves enjoying American Lite Lagers again?

You might want to check out the Frosted Flakes Cream Ale experiment thread and adjust that recipe for a lower ABV. I brewed that beer and am actually enjoying it. I was actually thinking of brewing it again with regular corn flakes and a lager yeast to see how macro I could get it. Not my...
