    Maybe a stupid question

I'm using a recipe that's supposed to be a scottish ale. It has to turn out better than my hopped extract brew :)

    Maybe a stupid question

I don't think I'm to the point where I can do partial mash. I guess I was hoping that the "specialty grains" came in extract form.

    Maybe a stupid question

Do all grains come in liquid or dehydrated form? I brewed a prehopped LME and am not very happy with it. I need to try something different. I don't want to do another style of prehopped LME

    First batch!

I hope so. Kind of disappointing first try. I'm going into secondary tonight so I can start another, hopefully better batch in my primary

    First batch!

Will carbing with DME give this beer some body and a little more flavor? Right now it tastes and feels like a half can of bud light that has sat on the night stand over night.

    Carbonating temps

Follow up to the carb question. What is the conversion rate for different carbing sugars? ie DME, honey etc

    First batch!

Also may try carbing with dme rather than corn sugar. Will it add a bit of body to this beer?

    First batch!

Ok after 8 days in primary it appears fermentation has mostly stopped. I had a OG of 1.049 and hydrometer reads 1.007. Smells decent and doesn't taste terrible, but very light bodied. I'm hoping that extra time and eventual carbonation will improve the flavor. Definitely going to try something...

    Remove krausen?

Thanks for the responses. This is my first batch and I only read the beginners section of the book before brewing. I'm on the intermediate part now and it's making me question some of what I did

    Remove krausen?

In Charlie Papazian's book, he says it "advisable" to remove the krausen if you can do so under sanitary conditions. He says the krausen has bitter oils that contribute to fusels in the beer and bitter flavors. Does anyone here remove the krausen from their fermenters?

    Acronym help

Thanks. I knew what OG and FG were but I've seen SG mentioned and wasn't sure if it was the same as OG or FG. I see now its just a generic term. Thanks again BTW emptying beer bottles for bottling is one of my favorite parts of home brewing :)

    Acronym help

What is the difference between OG and SG? A sticky with all the acronyms would be helpful in the beginners forum. I did a search but there were way too many pages of replies to sift through

    First batch!

I'm thinking it must be all the corn sugar I added. I added the full 2.5lbs on accident so it's probably still being converted. I was going to do 1 week primary, 2 weeks secondary (I know from reading here its not necessary) and 3 weeks bottle. Guess ill just have to buy more craft beer while I...

    First batch!

This is a pic at 4 days in. I didn't take a pic today, but it looks pretty much the same.

    First batch!

Ok, now I'm getting worried. I'm 6 days in primary and the airlock is still bubbling about once every 5-7 seconds. I figured it would have slowed way down by now. My "very active" fermentation was bubbling about 90 times a minute. This went on for about 3 days. Now I'm at 11 bubbles per...

    Upright vs chest kegerator pros/cons

Awesome. I didn't think of the hops storage on a upright. But the ability to have more on tap in a chest probably outweighs it. I've seen some on CL, but mostly of the 1 tap variety Thanks for the quick response

    Upright vs chest kegerator pros/cons

Just started brewing but don't want to bottle any longer than I have to. I want to buy or build a kegerator but not sure which way to go. Any advice would be appreciated
  20. R

    New to brewing and

That's similar to what I got minus the pot and kegging set up for $200. Probably didn't need it all up front, but figured I'd need it eventually anyway.
