Brew Day Gone Bad - All that could did,.. well not really

Why would you rack put out of your conical into carboys? And then rack back? Kind of defeats the whole purpose of the conical. Dump your trub when fermentation is complete. Cold crash. Then rack to keg / bottling bucket.

    Need some advice

I like to make a tincture with my spices. Measure out 1-2 tsp spices and add to 1 cup of vodka or everclear. Wait a week. Strain through a coffee filter and add to fermenter.

Which CA Breweries to Visit? Roadtrip tomorrow!

Firestone has their large brewery up in Paso Robles if I remember correctly. Right off of the 101. Stop in San Luis Obispo and see Central Coast Brewing. If you want a great meal, stop by Firestone Grill on Higuera street and order a tri-tip sandwich. I went to college in SLO back in the 90's...

How can some brewers cold crash and keg so soon?

In terms of reducing wait time from brewday to glass, there are a few techniques which will help. 1) Kegging will reduce the need for bottle conditioning / carbonation. I typically carbonate in the keg over a three day period. 2) Dry hop once you've achieved around 75-85% attenuation. I dry...

    Ontario Brewery

I did a tour of Steam Whistle brewery in Toronto a few years ago. Obviously, not what one would call a craft brewery. But good tour nonetheless.

    Oktoberfest/pumpkin fest

I'd suggest keeping the Melanoidin malt below 10%. Maybe drop to 1.5lbs. The vienna and munich malt will provide a good amount of full bodied maltiness already.

Floating material visible through the wall of fermenter

What yeast strain did you pitch? Depending on the strain, my guess would be yeast rafts. I've had a number of strains do the same. They looks like little yeast orgys cruising around the fermenter. :)
