    Secondary Fermentation

How does one know when to rack to a secondary? I have a batch in the primary right now, been there for two days, and the airlock has pretty much stopped bubbling constantly. Is this a sign it could be ready for the secondary already or is there a specific gravity way of telling?

    Adding Hops when Bottling

I made a batch last night and it has started fermenting in the primary. Upon racking to the secondary I plan on dry hopping with about 2 oz of amarillo. I want the beer to have a real strong aroma hops flavor so I was thinking of boiling up another 2 oz of hops for about 5 minutes to add when I...

    Sunshine Wheat

Its an OK town. I am still mad that all the concerts I want to see stop through boulder and skip denver. but beside that it is an ok town. Mountain Sun had skipped my mind, good beer. Peace loving atmosphere.

    Sunshine Wheat

You are going to enjoy Denver. There are a lot of good beers available here. Sunshine Wheat is good but its kind of old news around these parts. As I mentioned in another thread, Pint's Pub has some good brews. Heavenly Daze makes a hemp beer that is delicious, its real hoppy yet smooth. I love...

    New to brewing

you definitely can just make 5 gallons of wort. Actually this is the best method as you definitely sterilize all 5 gallons and kill anything that might be in the water when you boil the wort. The reason most people do a 2-3 gallon wort is their kettle is not large enough to do all 5 gallons. I...

    Hops Growing

Does anyone on this forum grow their own hops? I would like to try, but I don't know where to get plants/seeds in my area. I will have to ask next time I am down at my local homebrew shop. For those of you that have grown before, were they hard to get started? Did you harvest after the first...

What are the best Denver pubs?

First to come to mind, is Pint's Pub, I think its on 13th somewhere near the art museum (can't remember cross street). They brew several brews on site and also have like 250 different bourbons and scotches from around the world. Other places to note are Benders, Skylark (on S. Broadway).

    Cloning Question

If you are from the Colorado area (or if you can find it in your area), you have to try Hazed & Infused by Rockies Brewing Company. It is extremely hoppy and delicious. I would like to create a clone of this brew but had a few questions. They claim on the label that the beer is dry-hopped...

read if you use MR BEER kit

Not everyone here is using Mr. Beer. I myself use a 7 gallon fermenter. Usually ferment here for one week and then transfer to bottles. After two weeks I usually break into a few as my anticipation is to great. I plan to purchase a glass carboy (unless I get one for Xmas) and start using a...

    Gluten-Free Beer

Thankyou BeerTracker. This website looks very informative. I will definitly try one of these and post on how it goes. Just curious, what made you use buckwheat in the first place? and if you don't mind what was your recipe?

    Gluten-Free Beer

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye, oats and various other sources I can't remember at the moment. My wife has a gluten intolerance and therefore cannot drink beer anymore. Its been close to 5 years since she has had a brew. Has anyone ever made any beer with anything besides...

    Porter Questions

Here is an update on my inactive Porter. 1.5 weeks after bottling - couldn't resist and had to taste Extremely Good Flavor - could use a tad more carbonation only gets a small head with a quick poor but still quite good. Glad this one turned out. I was pretty scared that I messed...

    Jalapeño Beer

I didn't read professor's last post in strange recipes until after I created this thread. Can you post a link to the pepper stout/porter?

    Jalapeño Beer

A friend from work mentioned having some jalapeno beer before. Has anyone else ever heard of this or seen a recipe. If you have seen a recipe I wouldn't mind link/recipe as I might try it. Seems like you could soak peppers in fermenter for a little spicy brew.

    Malt Extract Recipes

Jack, I posted a malt extract recipe for a 5 gallon IPA on this forum, the topic was called IPA (partial mash). It used dry malt extract rather than syrup (you could sub with syrup) but it was very easy and it came out tasting really good (Next time I will definitely add more hops to this...

The local brew store has a special running

That does not sound like a bad deal. I know the local brew store to me sells a beginnger kit with one stage fermentation plastic bucket for about $65. So it is like you are getting the glass carboy for free. Another place to look for kits is on ebay, I found mine there for approx $30 and it came...

    Help a beginner!

Thankyou Professor! It does not sound nearly as tough as I imagined. I will definitely give this a try. I definitely have an old cooler in the garage that I could use to for this purpose. A coupld day soak in a bleach solution will be in order but it will do. One question is what is tincture...

    IPA Recipe (Partial Mash)

Here is a complete recipe for an IPA I made, it was very good but I would add a second ounce of finishing hops if I made it again. It was milder than most IPA's but still very good. My favorite part was the incredible creamy head. Ingredients: Approximate Ingredient Cost - $45.00 0.5-0.75...

What about using Hydrogen Peroxide to clean/sanitize...

I have used the 2 oz. bleach and water method before and it worked fine for me. After rinsing the bottles in the dilluted bleach I put them all into the dishwasher (no soap) and ran through a normal cycle. I believe the heat of the dishwasher also helps to sterilize. Then I bottled right over...
