    Learned a lesson tonight.

That video is actually what gave me the idea. I think the fact I was using a Stout, and didn't have the bottle full to the "fill line" on the bottle was the path to my faildom. It looked like chocolate creme foam in the bottle as it shot out of my hands and across the kitchen.

    Learned a lesson tonight.

So, I ended up with leftover of my Chocolate Milk Stout that was just not enough to fill a bottle, and I had one bottle crack during bottling. I got a bright idea. Soda Stream. So I filled what I could into the soda stream bottle and slapped it into the machine, hit the button and...

    DIY Bottle Rack/Dryer

Top down view for better explanation. The ribbon will have to be replaced with something more "sanitary" when said and done.

    DIY Bottle Rack/Dryer

Wife had an idea of using these racks for drying bottles, but with sticking the necks through the rack. I took it a step further by snipping the rails and hanging the bottles off the rail. When said and done, we will have two of these racks on either side of the "bottling station" we...

Why transfer to carboy after one week?

I know my beer brewing days are still "young", but my mead brewing days are not. I use the secondary for clarifying and aging with additionals. Getting it off the trub and old yeast. Many don't, and thats ok. Amazing beers can be made in all manners. As far as the plastic vs glass vs...

    The Big Box of Yum

Actually, I could see using the black pepper in a citrus based wheat beer.

    The Big Box of Yum

If you are going to use Jelly Bellies, and toss in a whole handful, can I suggest a different bag? Jelly Belly Harry Potter "discover the wild flavors of EARWAX, DIRT, SPINACH, GRASS, BOOGER, SARDINE, and BLACK PEPPER. And, everyone's favorite VOMIT. "

Does Glassware Really make a Difference?

This is exactly why the wife started to let me get a wide assortment of glasses. I had her try her favorite organic chocolate stout in a shaker, like she always had.. Then I put it in an Abby Goblet.. She is sold on the glass making a difference.

Airlock stopped bubbling after 48 hours

I am raising a thread from the dead so I can give props to Revvy. While I know the airlock is not the end all be all, I like to see the bubbles. Even more so, when I had a rather "violent" fermentation for ~36 hours that had the airlock whistling, and now, nothing. To not only find a well...

    Prairie Bomb

Would love to help you.. My local liquor store has a bunch of it, almost all the time. Sadly, the liquor laws in Oklahoma are mighty messed up, and it's illegal for anyone besides distributors to ship across the state border. :(

    Bottle conditioning too long?

I am new to a lot of this, including the history. I have been more into enjoying than research. With that said as a way of saying, "Hey, I might be wrong.". I thought IPAs were meant to age. In barrels, on ships, crossing the sea? Wouldn't the mellowed out hops flavor be closer to how it...

Yet another - No bubbles - Questions

Another update: The chocolate milk stout is going well. I will notice the airlock about twice a day move around. Friday I pull a sample to get a gravity reading, and then again on Saturday to see if there is any change. If no change, I move to bottling. I also just received the rest of my...

Yet another - No bubbles - Questions

Quick update. I waited the extra couple days, at least for the krausen to drop. Just transferred to the secondary fermentor, and took a gravity reading. 1.024. Next week I will take another gravity reading, but this reading is what is expected for the kit I used at this time. Took a small...

Yet another - No bubbles - Questions

Thanks everyone. I will wait a couple extra days before moving it to the secondary fermentor (glass carboy) and adding the cocao nibs. As you all have said, yeast itself can't tell time. Only reason I am using the secondary is I want to be able to see it. I will be picking up one of the NB...

This is a stout, and I have to add the cocoa nibs and spice pack on day 5.

Yet another - No bubbles - Questions

I didn't mix the added 2.5 gallons to the ~2.5 gallons of wort to equal the 5 gallons enough. I poured, stirred for only a couple of minutes, took a sample, pitched yeast, then measured the OG. As this says to move to a secondary fermentor on day 5 (by siphon), I will do another reading then...

Yet another - No bubbles - Questions

Ok, I am probably being paranoid, and I have been reading threads for the last two days that pretty much confirm it. I got a BestBrew Kit - Chocolate Milk Stout Followed the directions, doing a partial boil with top off. First, the top off. I know I didn't mix it enough. Got that...
