    Anchor Steam comparison

Here is my Anchor Steam clone that I recently bottled on 5/28. As you can see by the date it's still a bit early but the color is a dead match and the taste is 90% the same with mine just tasting a little rougher that should age out within the next week or two. I was quite surprised how close...

    Grain seep question

I wondered the same thing when I did my first steep. I just added them to the water once they had reached the desired temperature and have always used that method. If you do that then get your water about 5 degrees over your optimum temperature because once you add the grains it will cool back...

Do I really need to boil all my water?

I have always just used bottled spring water like bknifefight suggested. Throw it in the fridge to cool down and it works well and I've never head a problem doing that.

    Ginger beer not very lively

18c should be fine for fermentation. I would give it more time and see what it does. As long as your OG reading was temperature corrected to the current temperature then something is going on in there.

    Dry Hopping

Look at all of that green goodness! Looks great!

    Ginger beer not very lively

I usually see active fermentation within a day but on my last batch it took 2 days before I saw any sort of foam on top. Give it a few days and I'm sure it will look totally different.

    Taking hydrometer readings from fermenter

I use a wine thief. Extremely easy to use and you can return most of the beer back to the fermenter and keep just a sample to taste how it's coming along. I used to use a turkey baster but it's worth spending the $8 for a real thief. http://www.midwestsupplies.com/fermtech-wine-thief.html

    Faint film in primary

Sounds serious. I'd better drink it before it gets worse. :mug:

    Faint film in primary

The member who's picture this is said his smelled and tasted bad which mine doesnt. Thanks for the suggestion and I'll just sit back and watch it. Thanks.

    Faint film in primary

Well, it needs another week in the primary anyway so I'll just sit back and watch it and give it another taste come bottling time. I'd be more concerned if it smelled or tasted bad but it didnt so that's why I was wondering if anybody had seen it before and what may have caused it such as hops...

    Faint film in primary

I dont have any hop floaties in mine but it does appear to be kind of like an oil film. Possibly oil from the hops? I tried to get a pic of mine but couldnt get a good one that showed it very well.

    Faint film in primary

I have an Anchor Steam clone that has been fermenting for about 2.5 weeks now and all of the krousen has fallen. What remains is a very, very faint film on top that I have not experienced before and was wondering if it could be from the WLP810 which I have never used before? As I said, the film...

My first brew is this weekend - anyone have suggestions for me?

Dont judge the flavor based on what you tasted on bottling day. The hop profile will mellow and decrease with time, cold temps, and carbonation. Congrats!

    First wheat brew

Same temps as a non-wheat for bottle conditioning.

    Lost Half My Yeast

So I assume your maltiness and hopiness mellowed with a bit of age? Also, nice lacing in your glass!

My first brew is this weekend - anyone have suggestions for me?

I just cannot fathom not liking the smell of a batch boiling. It gets me all giddy inside.

My first brew is this weekend - anyone have suggestions for me?

Dont drink too much while waiting for the 60 minute boil like I did last time. :)

    Red Tail clone fermenting video

I'm not sure how to post a video but left the code Flickr gave in case somebody can help. In the meantime I provided a link

    Red Tail clone fermenting video

I brewed this Red Tail amber ale clone Saturday and this is it on Monday. Yeast is WLP060 and OG was 1.056. The temp was getting a little higher than I wanted (74*) so I cooled it down a bit after I shot this video and now it's going at 70*-72* which is right in the optimum temperature range...
