Is a 48” stainless table wide enough for 3 sanke kettles?

I build a nice wooden brew bench and have been using it in the garage for a couple years. I’m playing with the idea of moving everything into the laundry room since I have a 30amp service in there. With my washer and dryer pushed all the way up against the wall, I gave 59” to spare. Just 1” shy...

    Designing the best mash tun

Well look at that... I built that exact jig from the thread you linked. :) I've cut two perfect holes off of Sanke kegs with that jig. I've used enough angle grinders to know that without a solid jig...I'm going to get a horrible hole that I'm not going to be happy with. I'd rather settle...

    Designing the best mash tun

I think we're talking about two different things. I built a jig that mounts in the sanke hole that allows me to cut a perfect circle for the opening. If I use that end for the bottom, then cutting a nice hole for the opening on the other end would be way harder. I may just stick with the...

    Designing the best mash tun

I have, but then there's the challenge of cutting a perfect circle hole without anything to mount the cutting jig too.

    Designing the best mash tun

I have a custom built E-HERMs system with two half barrel keggles (HLT and BK), but I'm still mashing in my 10 gallon Igloo cooler with a dome'd false bottom. The cooler is a little over 3 years old and with 20-30 batches on it, it's starting to show some age. A bunch of scratches on the...

    Fixing the Anvil Fermentor Lid

I haven't tried a spunding valve. There's absolutely no way in the world this vessel would hold anything over 2-3psi. To be honest, I think I warped my lid when I soldered the TC ferule, because my lid has to be placed on exactly right for it to even seal. With only 4 clamps and a thin...

Made some changes and improved my efficiency

Right on. I'm quite pleased with my 82% mash efficiency. I'm sure I could tighten my mill gap and bring that to upper 80s, but I don't want the problems that will come with that -- especially since I'm constantly recirculating. My biggest hang up was wondering if a 10% drop from mash to...

Made some changes and improved my efficiency

I’d have to agree with this. I assume most ball valves would work for the kind of pressure you’d be using to push wort — especially since it will only be for a very short period of time.

Made some changes and improved my efficiency

Ah, I see what you mean. Yeah, you definitely need 2 hands for that mini ball valve. This one from home depot is rated to 200psi: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Apollo-1-2-in-Brass-PEX-Barb-Ball-Valve-with-Drain-and-Mounting-Pad-APXV12WD/305454532 and it has a nice little mounting pad built...

Made some changes and improved my efficiency

Absolutely they would work. Take a look: https://www.kegworks.com/inline-ball-valve-shut-off I have 1 tank that has a tee with 2 ball valves to go to each keg in my kegerator. They do the job just fine for shutting off co2 to one keg while I force carb the other at ~20-25psi. You could put...

Made some changes and improved my efficiency

After my BK empties, I cut the power to the pump. I then remove the hose from the BK outlet, and connect it to my oxygen tank/regular (that I use for oxygenating once everything is in the fermenter). I then add a small amount of pressure to push the remaining liquid in the lines clear. I...

Made some changes and improved my efficiency

While this information has always been known to me, for some reason when I read your reply you made me realize I'm at a "good enough" spot. Sure, I could get my mash efficiency into the 90s... but I already do a 60 min mash (most of the time with rice hulls because I brew with a lot of sticky...

Made some changes and improved my efficiency

Since upgrading my equipment to an electric HERMS setup, I've been getting 82% mash efficiencies on the nose every time. I'm pretty happy with that. My brewhouse efficiency on the other hand has been a little all over the place, and I believe that's because I've done a poor job of measuring my...

    New Anvil Bucket Fermentors

Ugh, I have to admit that while I do like my Anvil bucket fermenter, I wish I had sprung for the SS Brewtech. My anvil is totally fine, but the fit and finish is just "ok". The racking arm and valve are weird and constrictive and I have lid seal issues (although that could be my fault as I...

    Tips to improve this recipe

I'm not sure I follow this... I was using the default NEIPA water profile as a target and Brewfather calculated 10.2g of CaCl2. This is actually a bit more conservative than http://www.ezwatercalculator.com/ suggests. I believe they called for 12mg of CaCl2 to hit the required 2:1...

    Tips to improve this recipe

I'll consider the munich and scaling down the double dry hop to a single dry hop. I was trying to really pack as much citra aroma into this as possible -- I think overdid it and could have been fine with probably a single 2-3oz dry hop. The oats/wheat were an attempt to try and keep the...

    Tips to improve this recipe

I've been brewing for the past 2.5 years. Most of the batches I've brewed were recipes from homebrewsupply.com. I recently decided to take a stab at creating a clone recipe of one of my favorite beers. It's a simple dry hopped pale ale from a local brewery...

Using an inline filter when kegging

I see a lot of comments about racking canes. I ferment in an Anvil Fermentor, so I'm at the mercy of my dip tube and holding a siphon throughout the transfer. When transferring a heavily dry hopped beer, I always cold crash for a few days to compact the hops as much as possible. I think for...

Using an inline filter when kegging

Any reason why the bouncer brand might be superior to the one I linked? I noticed bouncer is about twice the price.

Using an inline filter when kegging

The other day I was kegging a beer that had 4oz of dry hops. I was doing a closed transfer to the keg and I picked up some hop material that collected in the tube right before the quick connect. It slowed the kegging process and ultimately killed my siphon which lost me probably 1/4-1/3...
