    purging kegs

Like TAK, my IPAs would never taste as good as the gravity samples did after bottle conditioning. I ended up attending a class held at a local brewery (El Segundo Brewing - winners of a gold medal in 2015 for their Hammerland IPA at the IPAfest in Hayward CA) on oxidation. They stated that they...

Canning Jar Trub/Yeast Harvester for Conical

They have both but I bought the wide mouth for my needs. It's my guess that the regular bands are also slightly taller.

Canning Jar Trub/Yeast Harvester for Conical

I picked up some stainless steel wide mouth bands from Ecojarz- they had a 30% off sale going a few weeks ago. The bands are deeper than regular bands by a little bit. It's not by much but it's enough to make a big difference. So if anybody went to the effort of making one of these lids or went...

Question regarding bru'n water and reducing mash pH

I also use RO water and add minerals. As Martin said, just add your sparge additions directly to your kettle. It doesn't matter when you do it (I do it as I'm bringing my wort to a boil). After the salts have done their job of helping set the pH, they're only there for flavor. So, if you're not...

Correcting mash pH, based on Brun' Water data

I'd use BrunWater for that too. Use the spreadsheet to figure out how much acid (or acid malt) to use to drop the pH down 0.1 units - like from 5.4 to 5.3. If your mash comes in at 5.5, dump the estimated amount of acid in and give it a good stir. If instead it comes in at 5.6, double the...

Pressurized transfer from conical to keg rig

kevink, There is no real need to swap the diptube. I suggested that it could be done since philipmeese was interested in filling a keg to just short of the gas post without having the top open. I don't worry about being just short of the gas post. I just fill until beer comes out of the gas...

Is 5.4 to 5.6 too high a target pH? Questions...

I emailed Kimmich about those values. He was quoting values at mash temperatures. The 5.4 that homebrewers target is room temp. So, his 5.1 is our 5.4 - there's about a 0.3 pH difference.

    Keezer in Europe

I got back from Italy a little over a week ago. It's a good thing you'll be making your own beer. However, the wine is good! Cheers!

Cleaning tap lines after an infected batch of beer

Gregmosu, The band aid flavor might also be from chlorine in your water. Do you do anything to remove chlorine? I think that may also come from some infections as well. Cheers!

    3Pcs Stainless Steel portball valve

BRAAF, TSP is trisodium phosphate. It's a pretty strong degreaser. Around these parts, it's sold at hardware stores in the paint aisle. It's used to degrease walls prior to painting. I suppose any degreaser that you can get your hand on would work. Hot water and soap would work. Just be sure...

    3Pcs Stainless Steel portball valve

BRAAF, Whenever I get a new piece of hardware like a valve or whatnot is to totally disassemble it and give it a good soak in hot water with a good dose of TSP. The TSP strips the manufacturing oils from the hardware pretty quickly. After a few rinses, I follow with a quick dunk in StarSan and...

    I'm I using Bru'n Water correctly?

Lemon, Looks like you've got it figured out - simple additions to get you close to your targets. I might simplify a bit more by dropping the Epsom salts all together, doubling the gypsum, and rounding the calcium chloride to 0.5 grams per gallon. This will make your additions very simple -...

Inkbird itc-308? $35 gets you wired, 2 stage temp controller.

Sleepy, You are correct - set the kegerator to max cooling and let the inkbird act as the thermostat. That's how I use mine and it works great. Cheers!

    BIAB temp probe questions?

Akthor, I think most folks don't bother with a thermowell. All I do is get my water to strike temp, put my bag in my kettle, and dump in the grain. Then I stir like crazy, stir some more, and check the temp with a probe thermometer. If I'm satisfied, the kettle gets sealed up and covered with...

Anyone build an overhead bridge crane in their brew area?

akthor, I say go for it! I like your plan and think it would be pretty dang slick once you pull it together. I don't have anything to add to the conversation other than I look forward to seeing the evolution and completion of your project! Pliny

    Molar concentration of Iodine

I don't know what the molar concentration is, but this is what the back of my bottle says. Two percent by weight, I assume. I'm too lazy to figure out the molar concentration. I hope this helps!

    Caribou slobber stalled?

Charlie, Are you using a refractometer to check the specific gravity of your beer? If so, the gravity will read high as a result of the alcohol. Try using a hydrometer after fermentation. If you're already using a hydrometer, I'm not sure why it would stop at such a high gravity. Did you...

    Old Perlick 425S vs 425SS

RM, Sorry - I was wrong. The chart I was thinking of can be found on the product spec sheet for their faucets and the one I was looking at only covers the 6XX faucets. You might try giving them a call? Good luck!

    Old Perlick 425S vs 425SS

ReverseMonk, I think I saw a table on the Perlick website that outlined the availability of replacement parts for their different faucets. You might be able to tell from such a chart. I'll dig around to see if I can find what I was looking at (and to see if my recollection is correct).

Chronical Fermenter by SS Brewing Technologies

Nicolas, Yes, I added wheels (and leg extensions) to my 7 gallon Chronical. I reworked the plumbing on the bottom of the cone so that I go straight down into a canning jar to catch trub and yeast. As a result, I needed longer legs to make room for my additional hardware. I fabricated my own...
