    Cold crashing outside.

I now have my kegerator which is a small fridge to stay between 3 and 5*C. My strategy is to have one beer on tap, one carbonating and one fermenting. When I empty my tapped keg I brew again. I ferment at 18-19*C. My fermentor won’t fit in the fridge. So I transfer to a keg and start carbonating...

To Get a Hop Spider or Not?

sorry if I hijacked the thread. I now try to buy from local suppliers for malt and hops, and the LHBS for other items.

To Get a Hop Spider or Not?

I found OBK to be fairly rude in my dealings with them. I bought four used kegs from them and two had lids that wouldn’t seal because the kegs had been abused as if they had been pried open. Their response for selling me two useless kegs was that it was my fault for buying their cheapest...

    Cold crashing outside.

I thought I had replied to jag75, but it seems I only replied to the email alert that was sent. I do have a kegerator, but it is at 8C which is my basement temperature. If I turn it on even at low the fridge. Goes too cold. I have run out of conditioned beer for a few days so will try turning...

    Cold crashing outside.

Hi l made a red ale on February 12. I transferred it to a keg feb 26. I am cold crashing it today because it is warm (-2C now, up to +1C this afternoon). It will be -4C at 11pm, and to -9C overnight. About how long should I leave it outside for. My basement is +8C. When I bring it in I think I...

Beer coming out gas line when qd disconnected

It went well. The beer is carbonating and has not yet gone bad due to oxygen exposure. I only have a single tap so will keep drinking from this keg to not the oxygen age. I will be getting check valves next visit to the LHBS. Which is farther for me than a the hops farm or malterie in the area.

This is a great help. I will do this this evening. Thanks

Beer coming out gas line when qd disconnected

I thought that might be it. The batch I made yesterday I used my shortest gas tube. There are individual taps for each line, but no check valves. I have a big note on the inside of the fridge to turn off taps before changing kegs. Is it too late to cut the gas tube now?

Beer coming out gas line when qd disconnected

I am having a lot of trouble with my second keg. My first went fine. I bought four used kegs and they are all different. They are pin lock. One doesn’t hold water upside down because the top has a wobble bigger than the lid and new o-ring can seal. The other three seem to hold gas. The one I am...

    Second hot break

There’s not a lot of ‘of course’ with me in brewing. For instance I didn’t know there was protein in the mash. I thought it was starch turning to sugar which we were trying to make alcohol from. Thanks for that information. Is the trub (editted) in the fermentor protein also?

    Second hot break

I was brewing a smash ale today. I have never gotten a full 19 litres from a batch (I have only done 7), because I have an 8 gallon electric kettle with a 4500 element. I fill as high as I can and am right on the heater rheostat to turn it down as the hot break rises, and up again as it falls...

    Cooling between kegerator and tower

Thanks for these responses. I thought I was on my own. I usually only have one beer a night, and my wife drinks wine. Losing 4 ounces every time I drink 16 means I lose 20% of my beer. That will be a problem when I start brewing better. I didn’t know about liquid cooling loops. I have found...

    Cooling between kegerator and tower

Hi all, after doing all measurements, and convincing I purchased a tower kegerator to fit in under utilized cabinet in the kitchen, so I could have the tower on the bar above the counter. It is not as easy to fit as I thought and does not have the 3 inch airspace all around. So I am thinking of...

    Canadian Kegerator Question

Hi all, after reading Bobby M's Kef force carbing methods, I have decided to go the kegging route. I am seven batches in and have not perfected the sugar (I use maple syrup) bottle carb system. Does anyone have experience with the costco danby kegerator or Dbestbuy insignia-1-tap-kegerator? Thanks

    suspended threads in wort

No I hadn't learned that procedure. It was around 70F when I put it in, and I just put it in. I will read up on proper gelitanising for next batch. Thanks for the heads up

    suspended threads in wort

okay great, I'll bottle today. Will this settle out in the bottle? I thought the gelatin was supposed to sink those. They came after I put the gelatin in. Did I wait too long to bottle? Thanks for the reassurance

    suspended threads in wort

Hi. I have made three brews so far. The first I had a lot of help from this forum and it went pretty well, but I didn't add enough maple syrup at bottling so there wasn't much head. The second went pretty well. was a little rough after two weeks in the bottle, but now is three weeks and is...
