    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

This is only my 8th all-grain batch so nothing is on purpose yet. ;-) According to my math, I got 87% efficiency. I seem to get 75% or higher all the time unless I screw something up and end up at 60%. I'd prefer to be at 75%.

    Looking for a good beer

I have a great business idea too: build a machine that can predict winning lottery numbers. Now I just need someone who can build it. If anyone can do that, get in contact with me and I'll do all the hard work.

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

Made this yesterday. We baked the pumpkin, organic stuff, not Libby's, at 350°F for an hour and about 45 minutes at 300°F. That caused some burnt parts so we didn't use the blackened parts and added a 5th can of uncooked Libby's pumpkin to make up for it. Used 1lb of rice hulls but still got a...

My Stirplate... Cheap and Easy Build...

The small amount of foam in my photo is fermentation, it just dissipates before it can form a big krausen because of the stirring. I've had a smack pack of yeast ordered online and delivered 7 days later already smacked and fat. It worked fine when I used it a few days later. I think yeast are...

My Stirplate... Cheap and Easy Build...

In my experience, you don't see a big krausen when stirring. Almost all my starters looked like this while on the stir plate and they've all been very vigorous fermenters.

My Stirplate... Cheap and Easy Build...

I got two 2L flasks from Amazon for $28.50. They seem to be more expensive now at $22.50 each: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005QDP82Q/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

My Stirplate... Cheap and Easy Build...

It's my understanding that a big vortex is unnecessary, a small dimple is good enough. So either should be fine.

I'm in the last few minutes of the boil for my Fuller's ESB clone that I didn't get to this weekend.

Portland - out of towner wants to kmow which Rogue offerings to try

This seemed anti-Portland but it's obviously sarcasm because they mentioned Spokane as a nice place to visit.

Portland - out of towner wants to kmow which Rogue offerings to try

One of the few Rogue beers I like is Ménage a Frog. But go to Bailey's Taproom instead, best beer bar in Portland. :-)

    What are you drinking now?

Dogfish Head's Black & Blue that I've been saving for a hot day like today. Sitting in the backyard and not sharing with anyone either! I'm even wearing a black t-shirt and blue shorts.

    Ever been here before?

    Like what?

    Ever been here before?

Yes. I did this with the first starter I ever made. I even thought first that I should sanitize the vial just in case and I thought better of it. The starter turned out okay though... maybe my hands are just naturally sanitary.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I was hoping to brew a Fuller's ESB clone on my new Blichmann burner this weekend but my bulk grains, supposed to arrive today, missed the train in Montana and it looks like they won't be here until Monday. One of my goals in graduating to all-grain is to make the perfect Fuller's ESB a little...

My Stirplate... Cheap and Easy Build...

I made 2 stir plates based on the original post and both work fine, but I have some questions based on what others are doing: 1) why use resistors, capacitors and the LM317T? I didn't and my stir plates work. I just wired up an on/off switch and a pot and the fan. 2) does anyone have a good...

I asked my LHBS (Seattle) this question and they said about 60% of their customers are extract brewers. Incidentally, 20% of their brewing customers are women.
