    Why I can't get head?

I think people missed the part where he said these are LME kits. Extract brews often don't have much head. You can try steeping some carapils/carafoam. Steeping is similar to mashing, but the temperature and amount of water aren't as picky.

    Help...is my beer ok?

I broke my first hydrometer before I had a chance to use it. The next one didn't last much longer. Then I bought two so that if one broke I'd have a backup. I've never broken one since then. The logical conclusion is that hydrometer are social and when they're alone they're prone to...

Pin-lock post on a ball lock keg

I think you're misunderstanding. He's saying that new connections are less likely to leak than old connections. Pin vs ball isn't the question. It's new vs old.

    Brewer's Friend - IBU Accuracy?

Another thing to consider is that IBUs don't tell the whole story. I used to have a chart that showed the BU:GU ratios and showed bands as malty, balanced, or bitter based on IBUs and OG, since the sweetness of more malt can mask more bitterness. Butt even that doesn't tell the while story...

    I screwed up

To clarify, you started with 6 gallons of weak wort, then added 4 lbs of LME (1/3 gallon) and 1/2 gallon additional water. Is that correct? If so, that's almost 7 gallons. Not that that's a bad thing, necessarily. But make sure you've got enough keg space and/or bottles.

Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil - 1st brew mixed results

The temperature shouldn't fluctuate that much. I don't think it's supposed to fluctuate more than 5 degrees in either direction. As for the amount of water, 3 gallons for the mash plus 2.25 for sparge is only 5.25 gallons total, shoo that's not really enough even before accounting for...

    Landscape Hops?

That's not really related to decorative/ landscape hops and you'd probably get more/ better answers if you stated a thread of your own you all your question, but I'll give you my 2c. The ones should be slightly dry when you pick them, but if you let them go too long, they'll lose their oils and...

    pouring LME

I wouldn't store leftover LME in the can. Store it in glass or plastic. I used to buy in bulk and freeze it. Some people pour a thin layer of vodka on top to keep mold at bay.

    Inexpensive labeling

I used to use address labels with main information. Cheapest? Number your brews and put the number on the cap. Have a spreadsheet with brew number and description.

    Landscape Hops?

There are decorative hops, but that doesn't necessarily mean you can't brew with them. It just means that they weren't bred with brewing in mind. If they smell good, use them as aroma hops. If you're adventurous, try a batch with these as the only hop.

    Repurpose 20# CO2 Fire Extinguisher

Somebody liked this, so I got a notification. I probably should proofread when I post from my phone so people don't think I'm even older than I am. I meant to type "you" not "thou" (but maybe that's why jako liked it).

    Has anyone grown Neomexicana hops?

I planted a neo1 and a willow creek this spring. The willow creek only grew about 2 feet tall. The neo1 grew to about 6 feet and has a bunch of tiny (about pea sized) cones on it. I don't know if they'll even be harvestable before we get a frost.

    Who can you trust?! (Thermometers)

Boiling point shouldn't affect mashing, but it does affect hop utilization. I live at about 4500 feet and prior to Beersmith 3, I would just figure my IBUs were lower than predicted, so I'd aim for higher IBUs. There's a formula to adjust, but I'd just play it by ear. BS3 lets you set your...

    Ripe?

Pyrethrin and nicotine are both plant based insecticides, but they're also both pretty harmful to people. If I remember correctly, you can keep mites at bay by spraying with a stream of water from the hose. Once you knock them off, you can keep them off by trimming the lower leaves. They stay...

    Drunken Wisdom

Many years ago, I worked in a restaurant. They decided to try a new cheese sauce. My co-worker offered a spoonful to me and said, "try this. It's the new cheese sauce. It tastes like +@&#" I wouldn't try it and he laughed. He then said there was nothing wrong with it but I should watch...

    Foamy beer

I think some of you may have missed the part where he's adding sugar to carbonate. That's probably the key. My guess is too much sugar is being added for carbonation. How much sugar are you adding?

8 year old hops stored in the freezer

If they're vacuum sealed and frozen, they'll last a long time, but they'll still lose some potency over time. Different hops lose potency at different rates. I recently used some hops from 2011. Beersmith estimated they lost about half their aa%. I'm going through my hops now to usr up the older...
