    Motorized grain mill for $150?

Thanks for the info on how the switch works. I like the way you've got it mounted. I'll have to look into a similar approach.

    Motorized grain mill for $150?

I reread the thread and saw that the $97 was for a mill, not this mill+motor, so I guess paying full price wasn't as bad as I thought. I may mill some raw wheat in the next few days just to test the mill (and use the milled wheat for breakfast cereal or something).

    Motorized grain mill for $150?

I wish I had waited and/or read more of the comments. I paid the asking price. It arrived the other day. It does, indeed, include a motor. I haven't used it to mill any grains yet (and probably won't until some time next month), but I plugged it in and tested the motor, which runs. It also has...

Does anyone else belive in buying local?

I try to support my LHBS whenever possible. It's easy because they're good people and their prices are competitive with online shops. I'll order online at times because it's not always convenient for me to get to my LHBS.

    Motorized grain mill for $150?

I ordered from the link in the first post. I once bought an ipod that had some problems. I could have fought on the problems, but the easiest thing was that the picture showed a vlack ipod and the one I got was white. The fact that the picture didn't match was enough. Since the picture here...

    Opinions on Extract Brewing

I brewed a lot of extract and partial mash brews using LME and had great results. My LHBS sells LME in bulk for $2/lb. They also go through it really fast, so it's always fresh. If LME gets old, it darkens and doesn't ferment as well.

    Got a bit warm...

That's far too hot, as I'm sure you realize. That may be hot enough that the yeast have died, so if you're naturally carbonating, you'll need to add some yeast. If it wasn't finished ferementing, you'll have fusel alcohol, which will taste like hot alcohol and will also give you really bad...

Reversing the effects of a lifetime of drinking

For many years, I stuggled to gain weight. Then I hit a certain age, started traveling on a regular basis, had a sedentary job, didn't exercise, etc, and started adding weight. A few years ago, I stepped on a scale and realized that I was overweight (6'2" and over 220 lbs). I decided to lose...

Huge yeast starter or yeast washing?

When you say nothing is going on, how did you determine that? Did you take a gravity reading? If you smell yeast, it's likely fermenting.

    What would you buy?

I've got a Mash & Boil and I really like it. I just didn't want you to limit your options.

    What would you buy?

If I were you I'd probably add a little and get either a Mash & Boil or a Robobrew. Those let you brew indoors with regular 110/120 volt wiring. There are advantages and disadvantages to each.

Huge yeast starter or yeast washing?

That'll probably take off in a hurry. A pint has a lot of yeast even after a couple of months.

    Using Fresh, Non-Roasted Cacao Beans

I don't really know. I used them raw, but I see that one of the other people who responded suggested toasting them.

    Using Fresh, Non-Roasted Cacao Beans

I've used cacao nibs before, but I don't remember the details. After a little Googling, I'd suggest using about 2oz for a 2.5 gallon batch. You can crack them into nibs or grind them into powder. You'll get more out of them the finer you crack/grind them. Using vodka to sanitize sounds like a...

Question on LME substitution for a Nut Brown Ale recipe

LME has a tendency to darken, so I'd use the lightest available if I were you.

    Consistently poor attenuation

If you add beta amylase, you need to make sure thou take steps to denature it before bottling. Otherwise, it'll continue to chew through unfermentable sugars and make them fermentable. This can lead to bottle bombs or gushers (my sister's brother has a stain on his ceiling after trying this...

Carbonation questions and CO2 in unbottled beer.

Are you checking the gravity a few days apart to make sure it's finished? I don't think you should still be seeing airlock activity if it's finished.

    Why I can't get head?

Oops. You're right. I missed that.
