    Automated immersion coil stirring

I've since moved on to a plate chiller but I would wrap the cord around a screw on the end of the 2x4 - It doesn't take much to keep the drill in place. The drill has a lock button that keeps the trigger down and a dial so I keep the speed to a minimum - just enough to keep the wort moving.

The 2qt starter was stirred on a stir plate. I don't remember the actual date on the vial (I still have it at home) but I think it was best before may 2013. When I plugged in the date into mr malty it had a 98% viability. The mash temp was 150*f for 60 minutes and the temp is maintained in my...

I'm hoping I can get some expert advise on how I can get this beer to finish fermentation. Here is the recipe: Brewed on 2/9/2013 15lbs Two Row Pale, .5lbs British Light Crystal, .5lbs Medium Crystal Columbus [13.9%] 1 oz @ 60 minutes Columbus [13.9%] 1 oz @ 55 minutes...

Switch element from 240v to 120v

I've been researching for some time on eBrewery builds and I've decided on a single vessel MLT with a RIMS tube (no HLT) so sparge water will be heated inline. I will have an electrician help me (once I find one) but I want to make sure I get all the necessary parts first. I'm sure this has...

I wonder what it would be like...

I think you would drink you're way out but you would care about living less and less as you edged closer to your goal and inevitability succumb

    android or iphone?

You need the Cisco AnyConnect client for VPN on Demand with Cisco ASA firewalls. I'm not aware of one for the Android.

Tips on keeping the Mrs. happy

Do everything out doors. Ever since I've switched to all grain everything I do is out doors and out of the kitchen. She loves my hobby now! :)

    android or iphone?

I've been in IT for 14 years and prefer the iPhone. We deployed VPN on demand and have developed in house applications for trading commodities securely. Something that couldn't be done with the Android.

    Automated immersion coil stirring

I've been using the following method for cooling my wort for six months or so and it works so well that I wanted to share. Basically I have a stainless steel mix-stir http://www.midwestsupplies.com/the-stainless-steel-mix-stir.html for de-gassing wine hooked up to a drill. It's completely...

    Real Wort Starter Idea

What's wrong with just using extra light DME? I've never noticed any difference in flavor and I usually toss the whole starter in.

    First All Grain

If I was starting from scratch today I would probably do a hybrid mainly to save money. I batch sparge in a cooler now and I have concerns with the BIAB holding temp in the kettle and having to watch over it constantly to monitor the temp. I also don't want to lose efficiency. My method now...

Quick question about dry hopping and secondary fermentors

+1 on cold crashing. I also find that if you smash the sealed hop bag with a hammer this really crushes the hops so they don't stay balled up in the secondary/primary, however, I don't know if it matters. This happens once where I could see the hop pellets sitting at the bottom. The only...

    two cooling questions

In the summer months (Houston water is ~80*) I use the immersion coil to drop the temp with tap water to approximately 100* and then hook up the input to the following pump in a bucket of ice water to drop the temp the rest of the way. Total process take about 15-20 minutes. I prefer this...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Making a yeast starter today for a Bavarian double bock I'm brewing Sunday, and racking Whiskey Stout on to 2.5oz whiskey barrel chips of 375ml Johnny Walker Black which has been soaking for two weeks. Can't wait!

    Brewing in a jacuzi

With the window being right there, couldn't light be an issue? I was told that light will spoil beer and you should ferment in a dark place like a closet. Is this old school thinking?

    Another forgotten beer

WOW - jealous! I keep buying more kegs so I can let my beer age a little but so far I just have more friends. I can't wait to hear how it turned out! I'm sure it's going to be amazing! :D
