Reading/Lancaster/Allentown area grain buy- round 5

Should also mention even if it is the correct order, I doubt I will have any pickups tonight. Since I wasn't expecting the delivery today, my schedule is all screwed up. I will probably sort everything out and have it all ready for pickups starting tomorrow evening. tom

    Brew capacities...

I think I have about 7 or 8 6-6.5 gal carboys, 1 7 gallon carboy, 4 5 gallon plastic jugs (never really use them). I also have 6 cornies to serve from at the moment though I've been mostly bottling right now. I have around 22 cases filled and drink maybe 2-3 beers PER WEEK! Unfortunately I...

    East Coast ECY09 Abbaye

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone near southeast PA have any of this frozen or washed that I could get some? I'd gladly pay or trade something I might have. Only problem would be that I need it asap. I want to brew an abbey next weekend and would love to try this strain. If you can...

Reading/Lancaster/Allentown area grain buy- round 5

I know this is a bit off topic, but would anyone in the grain buy happen to farm yeast and have some East Coast ECY09? I'm looking at doing an abbey and would like to use this in one of the fermenters. Only hitch is I'm planning to brew it next weekend. If the grains do indeed come in on...

Any experience w/ Wyeast 1332 Northwest Ale?

It is not a Belgian strain and it has no hints of banana that I can detect. Northwest ale is a kinda unique yeast. Works good in IPA's and Pale ales from what I have found so far. Hope this helps! tom

Coohang, that is allowed and appreciated by most, just let me know ahead of time. Also, if anyone can carpool together, that would be cool too. Sorry for the late update. Been a bit busy with this gorgeous weather! NCM finally did get back to me yesterday. The order still has not been...

Reading/Lancaster/Allentown area grain buy- round 5

Well things looked promising yesterday morning that the purchase was going to take place, then I never heard back from them. I have no idea where we stand as of now. Not sure if they are getting our order together and will request payment today or what. I will let you all know what happens...

It should be okay with my schedule. I will have to have a cut off time for pickups and we'll have to be moderately quiet due to my wife sleeping for work, but it's nothing that hasn't happened in the past. I am all but completely out of base grains at the moment, so the sooner the better for...

Got a reply from NCM saying that their facility is completely booked for shipping tomorrow, so our grains won't go out until Friday giving us a Monday delivery, Tuesday at latest. Still haven't officially placed the order yet though. Tom

Reading/Lancaster/Allentown area grain buy- round 5

The money went into my account this evening, so I will be placing our order tomorrow. There should be no reason the delivery wouldn't be this Friday, but I won't know for sure until I talk to them. I will keep everyone updated as things progress. As for the hop buy, I think we should have a...

    Learned something last night

I don't even rinse them when they are new, just soak in some StarSan. After I use them I rinse them out well to get all the hop particles out and hang them in the brewery to dry, then repeat for the next batch. Honestly, for the price, you could just use them once and throw them away if you...

    Favorite Belgian

I love every and all Belgians. All depends on what mood I'm in for what my favorite would be. really been hitting sours and saisons lately since it's getting a little warmer out. tom

As kds1398 mentioned, the minimum buy in amount would be 1 lb of whatever variety. With Crosby, if we hit 11lb of any vartiety, the price came down a bit per pound. I think that would also happen with Labelpeeler with some varieties, just not sure if it would happen with all. With...

    Can this yeast do more?

Yes, 3725 it was. 3711 is definitely a beast! Took my recipe down to 1.000! I have a heated chamber as well and cranked both up to 80 over a week, then about 86-87 for a couple days to really see what I could do with them. The 3711 seemed to pick up the most esters for me during the last...

Reading/Lancaster/Allentown area grain buy- round 5

I was watching at harvest time and even had an email into Blake Crosby to let me know when "the good stuff" was available. The availability was so limited that for a group buy, we never had a chance. If your dieing to get one of the hard to get hops, your better off grabbing it as soon as you...

Definitely NOT using hops direct. I tried to get with them for the last hop buy and they made it seem like I was wasting their time after waiting several days for a reply. Places I'm deciding on (so far) are B. Crosby again (excellent service last time) or Labelpeelers. tom

    Belgian bottles necessary? Really?

They do fit a standard cap. Just used a couple myself the other day.

Use womens nylons. I use the knee high ones and they work great. Plus, the looks you get when you buy them is really good for a laugh.

Money is being transerred to my account and should be there by wednesday or so. I have to deposit checks and cash tomorrow, so hopefully the order will be placed Wednesday. On to other things, the hop buy. Who is interested in the hop buy and when do we want to start it? I assume some of you...
