    DIY Beer flights

Been a while since I posted any updates. Sorry about that all. I finished the project last night by adding the cork to the holes. Check out the photos below of finished product. Overall I am very happy with them. For next time, I would change a couple things, but these will be awesome to...

    Starter foam stopped popped out!

At this point there was no krausen. The starter was the milky color that they always turn after a day or so. I did not sanitize before pushing back in. I kind of freaked when I saw it out and pushed it back in without thinking. It hasn't popped out again. I'll be sure to sanitize the neck...

    Starter foam stopped popped out!

I made a yeast starter yesterday afternoon and put a foam stopper. I have used a foam stopper several times before without issue. Sometime last night, the starter must've gotten a little aggressive because the foam stopper was half out when I woke up this morning. Should I be concerned that...

I totally get what you're saying. I didn't even think of that.

    DIY Beer flights

Awesome! Thanks for the tip. Same glasses even cheaper. Now if I end up needing more, this will be a cheaper option.

    DIY Beer flights

Ya, it would've been easier to do them all open handles. The finger notch look was a pain in the ass to do. I guess that's what happens when your creativity outgrows your skill :D

    DIY Beer flights

Ok, I finished routing all 6 of the paddles. Going on a work trip so won't be able to get any further for a week or so. Next, sanding, staining, clear coat, and the whiteboard pieces. I have to fix one of the handle holes too. After I sand it ill re rout it. It looks a little shoddy right...

    DIY Beer flights

My father told me the same thing about the brass knuckles. Too funny. Maybe I should call it my Wooden Knuckles Tasting Paddle!

    DIY Beer flights

Awesome, thanks for the tip, but I had already purchased these: http://www.webstaurantstore.com/anchor-hocking-93013-4-5-oz-customizable-barbary-beer-flight-taster-shot-glass-24-cs/55093013.html

    DIY Beer flights

Ok, I worked on my beer flights some more last night. I had to go to the local hardware store and get a 2" forstner bit to drill the holes for the tasting glasses (they didn't have 1 7/8" so I adjusted). The holes for the glasses were the easy part. The handle was much more difficult. I had...

    DIY Beer flights

Seeing the price of beer flights makes my jaw drop each time! I had found 24 five ounce tasting glasses online for 39$ and decided, I'm going to make my own. This way I can design it the way I want, and I can match the stain to my keezer. So, I was feeling ambitious one night and designed my...

    Hop Spider Awesomeness!

Why in the world did I wait so long to build a hop spider, is the question I am now asking myself. When I first got a chiller it would always clog and be a frustrating mess. Solution? I bought a screen. Then the screen would clog and still be a frustrating mess. I tried a few different...

    Doomsday Eisbock recipe critique

Digging up and oldy! Unfortunately, you did not find gold. I didn't brew this one. I didn't know enough about the style to feel confident in getting a good representation. Hopefully for the next prophesied doomsday date, I'll be ready to go! If I do it, I'll re-post on here. Thanks for...

    Barneywine

That is always that hardest part with these nice BIG brews. I have a barleywine that has been fermenting for a little over a month and I'm so tempted to keg it and force carb so I can drink it already. But, patience will pay off, so I'm going to let it sit for a while longer. At least I get...

    WLP051 Cali V yeast

Awesome, thanks for the suggestions with this one. I think I'll start my probe around 66 for a week or so and maybe adjust up from there. Maybe let it sit for 2 weeks before dry-hopping to let the krausen settle.
