Here Here. I am a new Brewer too. Had the same deal with my first brew. Basically was all but scolded by friends doing it longer. I RDWHAHB (my friends), checked it after 7 days, and it was fine.

I just bought a can of Briess extract and there is a pin sized hole at the seal. It was sealed with a small bit of extract hardened on the side of the seal. I rinsed it off with hot water and squeezed the jug and a bit a extract did seep out. The hardened extract did not appear tainted before...

All bittering is done with lots of hops late in the boil. Beer Smith gave me IBU's of 86.5 with that hop schedule.
