Who uses an Stand Up Freezer for Fermenting?

We didn't drill a hole. We just run the probe lead through the door seal and into the leg on the Fermenator. Depending on the season and/or beer type, will run the freezer or a heating pad with the controller.

    Fun with wheats

The last few years I've really been drinking a lot more wheat beers... decided to try a higher alcohol wheat this time (around 7.5%-8%). Fermentation on a normal wheat is entertaining but this one was, as expected, even more so. I went with a blow off tube/large container from the start and...

    Northwest Hops

These people are amazing. It's been well over 3 months since the purchase and Northwest Hops tried to recharge my credit card this last month. They've never responded to any of my attempts to contact them but apparently thought they could just ignore me and then backdoor another charge after...

    Reverse osmosis

I'd take it as a sign that you're supposed to get one... :mug:

    Reverse osmosis

Being on a public water system, the water can vary quite a bit. It's also typically pretty heavily chlorinated so we've always filtered our brew water. We've used a couple different filters which also produce different water profiles. Any home brewers here using RO and then manually building...

    Long fermentation

Nice. Not sure why I've never had a long ferment prior to this. Everything from little beers to a heavy Scottish and all finished pretty quickly. Will keep monitoring and let her ride...

My wife would probably like to attend the meetings with me... just wondering if she had to join also. She's a beer drinker... not a brewer. :)

    Long fermentation

What's the longest active fermentation anyone has had? I've never had a beer have real airlock activity past about 5 days... currently on day 12 on this beer and a little curious at this point. Everything started normally... it kicked in about 10 hours after pitching and was very active for...

    Northwest Hops

Just a follow up on this. Never received any response from Northwest Hops. Credit card company refunded the entire purchase... apparently they never responded to them either. I just noticed they posted on here a few times but not since 2010. I'll definitely never order from these guys again...

Anyone here a member? I sent a membership question to them via their web form and never received a response. Just curious...

    Williamsburg Craft Beer Festival

Anyone make it this past weekend for the inaugural event? Pretty small (12 breweries) but it was fun. :mug:

    Northwest Hops

Well, no response from their own web form or email. It's been 5 days... time to just file a dispute with the credit card company. Last time doing business with these people...

    Northwest Hops

Anyone used this company? My recent hop rhizome order was short (apparently someone there can't count to 4) and they have yet to respond to my email. I just submitted a contact form on their site so we'll see what that does. Either way, pretty irritating when someone can't count to 4...

How to keep break matter out of your plate chiller?

Never had an issue with our plate chiller getting clogged (Therminator). That being said, it's also the first thing we flush and clean following a brew session. Knock on wood, we've also never had an infection. I had the same concerns before we got ours but, again, it's been good. Also...

    20 gallon HERMS too big?

Regular beer kegs are about 15.5 gallons so if you're kegging, your 20 gallon pots are a good size. We use standard kegs for brewing so our 10 gallon batches don't fill our kegs. As long as everything else falls into place, 20 gallon pots should be good for 15 gallon batches...

    What are you drinking now?

Love it or hate it, Southern Tier Creme Brulee... Favorite quote on this, "I drank a whole one... I now have type II diabetes"

    First brew in a while

Well, we finally brewed again after several years off... felt really good. We made a basic Scottish ale and, aside from a few small issues, things went very well. The biggest problem that we saw was rust on the grain mill rollers (JSP mill). It was stored inside the house so I'm a little...
