New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I guess so, appreciate the condescension.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Had to look up "DDH" - Double Dry Hopped - as I hadn't seen that acronym yet.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Quick question concerning my proposed dry-hop schedule. I brewed on Sunday and am currently planning to add the hops tonight (6 oz total), so essentially 48 hours after pitching yeast. I was then going to leave them for 5-7 days, then transfer to the serving keg. I was first planning to dry...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

This is consistent with the little I have learned about whirlpooling hops for the NEIPA style. The last batch I made just yesterday was precisely as you described...started at just under 160 then for about 30 minutes and it was like 130 or 140 by then.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I just brewed a ~5g batch yesterday and plan to dry-hop with 6 oz. of pellet hops total (3 Citra+2 Mosaic+1 Galaxy). I also did a whirlpool/hopstand with the same amounts. I get that the majority suggests to do these loose, not in a bag, right? This is my first go of dry-hopping and I know...

225's Electric HERMS 20 Gallon Brewery.

Right on! We get up to Asheville reasonably often, only about 2 hours away. Fun city for sure.

And yet somehow, not one of us was ever injured by one of these clearly devilish toys.

    Building a low-cost BIAB system

What is the capacity of the system you are planning? Probably the most common size here aims at ~5G batches.

    Water volume calcs

Interesting. I am between 1.25 and 1.5 per hour in my 10.25G kettle in relatively humid weather.

    Building a low-cost BIAB system

Just a couple of thoughts from a relative newbie in BIAB. This all can be as simple or as complicated as you like. For me, I am keeping this all as simple as possible. I recently moved to BIAB from extract to up my game. The only equipment change I have made is the BIAB bag itself. Meaning...

    Spunding mistake, oxidized wort?

I've certainly come close, but when I feel it's not going on right, I switch and soon realize it was the wrong port.

    Spunding mistake, oxidized wort?

Curious how you got the spunding valve connected to the liquid line since the ports are made to preclude that.

    Water volume calcs

FYI, I have pretty well landed on using the Priceless BIAB calculator and have had good results since using it. I also use a witness stick (calibrated length of plex tubing I had) for measuring volume.

Why did I wait so long to try an NEIPA?!

I already posted this elsewhere, but this is my next planned brew. I already bought the goods, just need to find time to make it. The flameout hops will be done below 160 so as to not add any add'l hop bitterness.

Why did I wait so long to try an NEIPA?!

What is considered low for this style? I just looked up Hazy Little Thing and they list that as 35 IBUs. That seems on the lower scale overall. To me, it is just about right or maybe a tad high, but not overly so. By way of comparison, I just looked up Voodoo Ranger and they list it as 42...

Why did I wait so long to try an NEIPA?!

I agree! While I cannot say whether or not that is akin to the original style, I have found this to be my preference as well. So far, I've found Hazy Little Thing to be my favorite thus far. I can say that the "Voodoo Ranger Juicy Hazy IPA" lacks the bitter backbone you speak of, at least it...

Why did I wait so long to try an NEIPA?!

Being in NC, I figured I'd be able to get some of these top mentioned offerings, but no. Went to a local specialty bottle shop and the guy said he can't get most of all the ones I mentioned and hadn't even heard of many. He said if I could get any Toppling Goliath, I could trade for whatever I...

Why did I wait so long to try an NEIPA?!

I have since tried both and I while I haven't done so side by side, I think I prefer HLT as it has a bit more hop flavor. Another one I found local is called Space Pegasus (made in Boone, NC), is quite similar to the Voodoo Ranger Juicy Haze IPA.
