    Caramel Apple Hard Cider

PET plastic pop bottles are designed to not hold flavour or allow air to seep into the beverage. If they did, bottled soda would taste different then canned not to mention that people use coke to take tar off their cars. If the plastic bottle leached flavour and air in and out, the acid in most...

    Caramel Apple Hard Cider

That's great info about the 22oZ bottles. I will pasturize them all but maybe do the Perrier bottles at a slightly lower temp for longer. Just worried about the plastic caps.

    Caramel Apple Hard Cider

With this recipe and apple juices sugar content, this would continue to ferment well past the 1.015 - 1.010 target and dry right out. I started mine about 5 days before yours and I bottled today after 2.5 days in the secondary. It's just me but I would take a reading now, as my airlock continued...

    1921 Indestro capper restore

Ok, I used this today for the first time and it caps like crazy, I just don't know if I go too far because every bottle had to jiggled and worked loose. Is there a way to avoid this, or do I have to jam it all the way on the bottle to get a good seal and live with trying to work the bottle out...

    Caramel Apple Hard Cider

Ok, I have questions. I bottled this today and used a PET plastic as my first and last bottle to keep a handle on carbonation. I used 341ml glass crown caps for most if the remaining batch but I did do some 750ml glass crown caps and some 750ml glass Perrier bottles with PET caps. If I keep an...

    Caramel Apple Hard Cider

Hey Mike, I racked this on Friday with hopes of bottling Saturday. Life happened and it is now Monday. Will this have caused any problems with the cider, or will it just be a little clearer.

    Caramel Apple Hard Cider

Yes. Although I am sure that you could use real caramel syrup and some cinnamon extract. It's 12 oz over 23l pretty sure it won't really effect much.

    Caramel Apple Hard Cider

I transferred this to the carboy to clear fit 24 hours and made the original syrup (perhaps an addition is on order) mine seperated as well. Anyway, started at 1.066 and got down to 1.010 last night. I will do three tins concentrate and the syrup. Here is last night right after racking and this...

    Bottling in Perrier bottles

I can confirm that the 750 ml green glass Perrier bottles work and don't explode. Now that just means that none of mine have, but the guy who told me to use them hasn't had any issues either. I got the cap issue sorted out as well when I picked up about 200 pet caps that were from the old style...

Got free bottles to give away? Post 'em here!

I would drive down from Kingston Ontario to get 24 of these.

What do i do with this?

No I mention a spare primary! Could I primary a 6 gallon batch in it if my other 6g primary was in use?

What do i do with this?

Yes, but could I use it as a second fermenter and do a regular 5 gallon batch if I needed?

What do i do with this?

Ok great, I have searched 10 gallon brewing and found lots of others using this same jug, but is it too much head space? The bottle is 16 gallons with markings at 4, 8, 12 and 16. What would be the smallest batch you would do with that size of fermenter?

What do i do with this?

So I went to the LBS to buy a spigot to make a bottling bucket. He had the spigot and some cool parts that will help make the bucket but then he said it was $19.95 for a 23l food grade bucket. Fair price, but on my way in to the store there was one of the jugs ( pictures below) outside marked...

    Sence in doubling sugar?

So my neighbour and brewing buddy has just started a batch of Coopers IPA. He has been messing around with his recipes and techniques since he started brewing and now he has done this batch with all the recommended dextrose plus that amount if liquid malt extract. So basically double the sugar...

Floating a hydrometer in your carboy?

I haven't had any issues with getting it out of my carboy. I don't usually fill it with water to get it out but looking at it now, that might have saved me some previous fiddling. I put mine in the secondary to save having to take my last two or three samples before bottling. Just makes it...

Floating a hydrometer in your carboy?

I do it as well but I also rack to secondary. I drop it in at the end before putting the airlock back on.

    1921 Indestro capper restore

The above picture was after countless hours of steel wool and wire brush scrubbing. Here she ready for another 90 years of capping splendour.

    1921 Indestro capper restore

Not sure this fits here but I am restoring a 1921 Indestro bench capper. I bought it off the son of the original owner and got the cappers history as well. It has had a lot of love and use, so I decided to take it right down to the metal and refinish. Here it is before paint!
