    Other Hobbies

I just have the one anova but would use a second one in a heartbeat. I think I'm getting an instapot next weekend for my birthday from the in laws. Then I can do the protein in the sous vide and nuke some veggies in the pressure cooker right before serving.

I just finished cleaning up my smoker. Ready to start smoking meats again. Sous vide is also the tits. Love that little immersion circulator!

    Other Hobbies

Small world! I've been brewing off and on for about 8 years now and been a ham for 3.5 years. I have my Great Grandfather's last callsign before he passed (W6WGF) which he got in the 50s or so. But he was first licensed in 1927 as 8DEQ (they didn't even have prefixes then). I've got a bunch...

Homebrewing books (that are not Joy of Homebrewing or Designing Great Beers)

I already own the two books listed in the title. I was flipping through Designing Great Beers and was surprised to find it completely omitted Belgian, Saisons, and sours. So I was wondering what new beer books are out there. Even if it's not technical any great reads, historical accounts, stuff...

Hoppy Session Saison, like a Sierra Nevada Session IPA but with Belgian Funk

What are you doing with the hops at 0 minutes? Is this like "whirlpool" do you let them sit for some period of time? I use a hop spider during the boil. Would you not use these in the spider but just drop them in at flame out ?

Hoppy Session Saison, like a Sierra Nevada Session IPA but with Belgian Funk

I'm not ready for temp control and our 9 month Texas summer is about to start. One of my favorite types of beers recently have been Session IPAs with a really strong aromatic floral hop character. I've been drinking some Lakewood Till and Toil and really digging the Saison style too. Since...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing our first all grain batch this weekend. Just the basic Nut Brown from the HBT recipe library. That is assuming my brew buddy stops at the LHBS and picks up the grains and yeast. Having him do this saved me either $12 in shipping or and hour and a half in driving. Very lucky he works...

New post a picture of your pint

My first homebrew in 4 years. The kids are finally old enough I can make hobbie time! It's a Texas Red from AHS and it's delicious.

    I used old hops

I'm curious as well. I have 3oz of high AA% hops that have been in the freezer for just over a year. I got them for an IPA I never ended up making.

    Prodigal son returning to brewing!

After a two year hiatus due to adding my son (two years old now) and a new daughter (3 months old now). I've finally washed the dust off of my brewing equipment and ordered a amber ale from Austin Homebrew! I have to say it was a particularity refreshing Fast Tie I drank the other day that...

So how bad was your worst homebrew hangover?

I once had "just two beers" out of my keg (about 2 0.5L Mugs so maybe around 4 regular beers worth). I thought they tasted funny, really thick... A couple hours later my wife indicated to me (I have no memory) that I was actually laughing at her sarcastic remarks while we watched Star Trek TNG...

What is not brewing but will still be buzzing

I am finally getting around to making a second batch of this. Did any of you try it with vanilla pods and if so how did it turn out compared to plain lemons?
