    Co2 question

I don't want to sound completely stupid :drunk: but....are there different qualities of Co2 or is Co2 just plain Co2? I am just thinking about the 5lb canisters of Co2 vs. the smaller 16/18g Co2 cartridges. Thanks.

Just Bought a Keg ....now I have questions

The tubing I have is 3/16" and my fridge is chilled to a nice 36F. If I go lower on the temp will this affect the life of the beer?? I have a pic-nic/party tap and until I can afford one of the nice outside taps, I will keep this current set up inside the fridge. Do I need to buy different...

Just Bought a Keg ....now I have questions

You guys are AWESOME!! Thanks for all the great advice and tips. When I get the "hang" of this kegging process I will buy into a 5lb Co2 canister and roll that way. All I can find here in the way of Co2 canisters run between 125.00 - 160.00 filled. At one local home brew store it was a $150.00...

Just Bought a Keg ....now I have questions

    1. I bought a 5gal soda keg with ball locks. 6 feet of tube, party/picnic spout, 16g Co2 charger and dorm fridge. So here are my questions....here we go! 1. Is 6 feet of tubing enough to cut down on foaming if I am only using a 16g Co2 charger and not a 5/10lb Co2 canister? 2. Do I...

    Dunkelweizen Question

I was sadly mislead that OneStep was a sanitizer...SHEESH I was wrong. Should have looked into this more clearly. Thanks for the advice about the primary. I was told today at my local home brew shop exactly what you suggested. Give it 14 - 17 days....put it into the keg, add the priming sugar...

    Dunkelweizen Question

I am just a HUGE fan of Dunkelweizen that I am on my 3rd try. I went out today and bought a 5gal keg, hoses, taps and fridge. I hope to have this tasty brew in the keg in about 2-3 weeks and in my glass about 2 weeks after that!!

    Playing GOD with Alcohol

So, I wanted to play around with the alcohol content of my beers and would appreciate any advice with this. I am mainly brewing from kits right now. If I added more sugar and yeast, will that increase the alcohol content and maintain the taste of the beer...or do I also have to add more grains...

    Dunkelweizen Question

Thank you. The volcanic eruptions after I popped the top was pretty odd...it acted like champagne and tasted like cider. I waited almost 45 days after bottling to test my sample and I figured after that amount of time in the bottle it should not taste/act like that. Sadly I had to dump the...

    Dunkelweizen Question

I am sanitizing with one step and warm water. After I brew, I run my utensils and equipment through the dishwasher with some one step, then run the cycle again with just water. I did get a new siphon and hose before I brewed this last batch. I had to bottle my previous batch of American Red...

    Is it Overkill???

When I prepare my bottles for brewing, I hand wash them with warm water and 2-Star, then I put them in the dishwasher on 2 cycles (1st one with some 2-Star, then another cycle with no sanitizer etc) Then after they dry, and when I am ready to use them for bottling I run them through another...

    Dunkelweizen Question

So I am fairly new at this beer brewing (about 8 months). I have had some GREAT success with kits and with all grain. My problem lately has been that every batch of Dunkelweizen I have tried to brew, has turned out bad. One batch never achieved good carbonation and tasted like vinegar and...

    Hello From Cary, NC

I brewed a Black IPA this evening, and a Belgian Triple on Friday. I brew every Sunday, rain/shine. The Brewery we are planning is a supply brewery only...not a brew pub. We do not have the time / $ to put into a pub at the moment.

Re-hydrate the yeast or sprinkle it on?

I have always re-hydrated my yeast with some water 80-85 degrees. I sprinkle the yeast on the water then cover it with saran wrap. After about 20 minutes, I stir the yeast into the water then recover. It starts to bubble and foam allot. I add it to my cooled wort, and aerate the mes out of it...
