    Keezer Life Expectancy Question

This is a good point. @hbhudy how exactly did it die? If the compressor hums for a bit then shuts off it's likely a starting relay or cap, and generally easy and cheap to fix. If the compressor runs normally but doesn't cool that's loss of refrigerant and while you can add more you probably...

    Cider still cloudy

Likely, but my own experience is still quite limited. I've only started with clear store bought juice, and I've done between a month and a month and a half in primary, no secondary. Of the batches I've made so far: I've not seen it clear up in 10 days, usually takes a few weeks. I've not seen...

    Cider still cloudy

EC-1118 isn't bad, but I'd recommend D47 or Mangrove Jack's M02 for future use, they retained more flavor in my store bought filtered juice yeast tests. I seem to be missing something here, cause people keep talking about this or that yeast finishing at a higher FG. I just did a comparison with...

    Baking Yeast?

Cookies don't use yeast, they use baking powder. :p I suggest you go to your local Goodwill/Salvation Army and find a bread machine. When I've been at Goodwill there always seems to be three of them for like $5 or $10 each, though I suppose covid may have changed that. But if you find one, you...

    Favourite Yeasts

D47, Mangrove Jack's M02 are my favorites so far. Most flavor out of the ones I've tried.

beer taste flat when keg is half empty

By overcarbed, I believe they meant carbed beyond the equilibrium carbonation level for your serving temp and pressure. Since you said you were a beginner, let's back up and cover the basics quick: Carbonation levels in beer are listed as "volumes of CO2" or more commonly just "volumes", where...

    Second kreezer build thread

So I haven't progressed past this "test" stage yet. I did however put my power meter on it two days ago. It's used 0.44 kWh in 41.3 hrs, at an ambient temp of 65-68 °F and a set temp of 38 °F. This is 7.7 kWh per month, or about $0.84 per month operation cost at $0.11/kWh. Obviously this will be...

    Cider help- what yeast

Have you tried D47 or Mangrove Jack's M02? In my yeast tests with store juice, both of those beat out Safcider. But I haven't made cider with fresh pressed juice yet, so I don't know how it does there. To the OP those two are ones I'd suggest. But again I haven't tried unfiltered juice like you...

    Battery Powered Lawn Equipment

I see the OP has long picked a brand. That said, I've got some 40 V Ryobi tools. The push lawn mower, straight shaft string trimmer with attachment capability, pole saw attachment, and a 14" chainsaw. The trimmer works fine, but does chew through batteries fairly quick. It has a brushed motor...

    Home brew packaging options

I've seen 4 station counter pressure bottle fillers, perhaps that would work well? Seems like cans on a small scale would have the same work as bottles to fill, but the added cost of $0.50 a can or so each time, whereas bottles are just an initial cost and then just require a cleaning before...

Can my CO2 tank explode if it gets to hot?

Why do you have an inverted tank? That will draw liquid CO2 from the tank, which isn't safe unless you're a minority of people that need liquid CO2, but that's not homebrewers. And if liquid is needed the best way is a tank with a dip tube, not an inverted tank. And why are you trying to raise...

Mangrove Jack M02 - sulphur problems?

I'm relatively new and only have made cider with store bought juice, but just made a batch with M02 and it was delicious. I did not add any nutrient or make a starter, just pitched a pack of dry yeast on top of the juice in the carboy and stuck it in my basement at about 67 °F. I can't recall if...

    Sweet bottle carbed Pasturisation plan.

If you're curious to try more I'd recommend D47 and Mangrove Jack's M02. Not sure what juice you're using, but I just did an experiment with store bought filtered juice and Safcider, EC-1118, D47, Safcider, US-05 (had previously done US-04), and M02. For my preferences, with my juice and...

    Poor carbonation

Of course you could keg. That doesn't require any priming sugar as it is force carbing, where CO2 is dissolved into the beer via pressure from a CO2 tank instead of priming sugar. Now getting beer from a bunch of bottles into a keg without adding loads of oxygen is probably not easily done.

    Non-diluted StarSan in fermenter bucket

And baking soda is basic so it would tend to raise pH.

    Sweet bottle carbed Pasturisation plan.

Indeed. I tried my first sweet carbed cider. Racked into keg, added sorbate and sulfate, added frozen apple juice concentrate (FAJC), purged and hooked to gas. Done! I started with kegging, and I actually started wondering if it was worth it when I was breaking down kegs to clean and fussing...

Feasibility of 240v brewing in my situation

Can you change the wiring to your dryer easily? You could upgrade the wiring to a 4-wire setup, put in a 4-pin outlet, and change the dryer from 3 to 4 pin cord. Now you have a proper 4-pin outlet and you can easily unplug the dryer for your brewing control. You'd upgrade the breaker to a GFCI...

    Sweet bottle carbed Pasturisation plan.

This backs up my concern that three days is way too long to let them go without checking. @Chalkyt said a change of 0.005 is roughly 2.5 volumes of CO2. 2.5 volumes is pretty normal for ciders and a lot of beers. If you drop by 0.005 per day then you'll be at normal carb in 1 day, 2 days you'll...

    Sweet bottle carbed Pasturisation plan.

You can skip the guesswork and mount a pressure gauge on one of the bottles. A number of members here have done that. Then you're not guessing, you just pasteurize when the bottle with the gauge reads your desired carb level (assuming you know what that level is). Depending on your fermentation...
