First time brewer: cider smells and tastes like soft pretzels?

No, it was very, very sweet. It had three pounds of pure sugar in less than a gallon of liquid. The alcohol must have killed the yeast.

    Low alcohol %

Nothing's a dumper unless you're a quitter! I imagine it would be pretty delicious as a blended beer.

Dry Irish Stout OG too high

Today I started my Dry Irish Stout extract kit from Northern Brewer. The recipe says that the OG should be 1.042, but I got 1.054 with several readings. The recipe has a lb of specialty grains that I steeped. The main fermentable is 6 lbs of gold LME. The only other ingredient is 2 oz of...

Where to find nonstandard crown cap bottles?

I'm asking if anywhere sells bottles besides the standard long neck brown bottles to buy cases of. I can't find any crown cap ones besides the standard long neck.

Where to find nonstandard crown cap bottles?

Mostly I've been able to find are the standard neck brown bottles. I try saving bottles, my favorite are the large Paulaner Hefeweizen bottles, but it isn't cost effective. Are there websites that sell these kinds of bottles for cheap? Or any other kind of bottle?

    Ritebrew Extract Kits?

I've ordered three kits, which raged from $15 (wheat) to $30 (dubbel). I'll report back how they are. I wonder why there are dozens and dozens of reviews on every Northern Brewer kit, yet very few (if any) on the Ritebrew ones.

First time brewer: cider smells and tastes like soft pretzels?

I didn't add any priming sugar because it was already very sweet. I would let it try to bottle condition anymore, but it's gone. I let some friends, who are immigrants from China, try it and they loved it. Said it tasted like sweet rice wine. I've never had Chinese rice wine, so I can't verify.

First time brewer: cider smells and tastes like soft pretzels?

After several days bottle conditioning, there is zero carbonation. Not even a pop when opening. The yeast is gone.

    Ritebrew Extract Kits?

Pretty new brewer here. I've noticed extract kits on Ritebrew are cheaper than elsewhere, sometimes half the price of Northern Brewer. I've noticed that their ABV is often a little low, such as being ~4% compared instead of in the 5s. I've also noticed in most of their higher ABV beers they use...

First time brewer: cider smells and tastes like soft pretzels?

Racked it into a new vessel, repitched the yeast, no change in gravity after a week. Bottled (very safely, in a stainless steel kettle with a top and weights on the top, in case of bottle bombs), after two days, zero carbonation. This morning I swirled them around and added put them in a warm...

First time brewer: cider smells and tastes like soft pretzels?

My mistake, I mistyped: in fact, I added two pounds of light brown sugar to the cider. I'm thinking it converted the sugar into alcohol to the point it could no longer live in the environment. It seems to be quite alcoholic, similar to port wine in alcohol flavor. Should I try to repitch the...

First time brewer: cider smells and tastes like soft pretzels?

Hi, first time brewer here. A few months ago, I decided to brew a cider. I used 1 gallon of regular, filtered and pasteurized cider, added one pound of light brown sugar (wanted it to be high ABV and sweet), and used EC-1118 yeast. No pectic enzyme or anything else. I let it ferment for a month...
