First Fermentation with a Tilt - Questions

Well my second round with it looks much better. It’s sitting probably 20 feet away from last time but generally the same location. Sitting on right on concrete this time vs before in kind of a rubber workout surface. There was a big blob of krausen on it last time when I transferred which I...

Which BYO Fat Tire Clone is more accurate?

Old thread but just brewed recipe number 2. My color is a lot darker but the flavor is spot on. Was able to find and older case of the original recipe to compare. Mine isn’t as carbed as the real thing and to me actually improves the flavor. The malt flavor comes through a bit better

First Fermentation with a Tilt - Questions

I expected some during really active fermentation but thought it would be a little more stable after high krausen. Report time i think is the default of 15 min but really without a device next to the fermenter yet it’s whenever I walk down there

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I was able to get a NEIPA brewed last night. Original plan was to do some prep last night and brew Sunday but that wasn’t going to be possible. So last night ended up a bit disorganized and took way too long but I got it done and finally to bed at 1:30AM

First Fermentation with a Tilt - Questions

Final Gravity by hydrometer was 1.011 which is a bit lower than the lowest on the graph of 1.015. In water the tilt reads 1.003 so about the same offset. I saw similar on the last brew. I could cal that offset out I’m sure but honestly I’m not worried about an offset since I’ll always check...

First Fermentation with a Tilt - Questions

Just to update here I did contact Tilt support. They said could be impacted by foam or wedged against the fermenter. Also asked if I added any calibration points to the app (I haven't) and to make sure I had enough head room (I had a lot, 5.25 gallons in a 6.5 gallon fermenter). I took the...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I've had my Anova for a really long time and it's still going strong. I won't say I use it a ton though, probably once a month. I did give it a try maintaining mash temperature with BIAB once. I put it outside the bag to keep the grain out of it. It worked out but in the end not any better...

What I did for beer today

Kegged for the first time today. Went pretty well. Was kind of a practice run for my next brew a NEIPA

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Using my sous vide to maintain sparge water temp. Why the heck didn’t I think of that? Brew day I’m usually going back and forth from kitchen stove to garage adjusting the stove burner to try to get the timing just right.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'm really hoping to brew my first NEIPA this weekend, but the kids basketball tournament (I'm the coach) schedule doesn't look promising.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I believe you are dry hopping in a keg from reading this thread - are you just rouse/agitating by shaking the keg (gently I would imagine) or flipping it upside down? With a floating dip tube I don't see a good way rouse by injecting CO2.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Getting ready to take my first shot at an NEIPA and thinking through process. Quick question to clarify this. During the soft crash are you leaving the CO2 tank connected at 2 psi? If so aren't you carbonating the beer a bit? 2 psi at 50F shows ~1.3 volumes of CO2 which isn't high but...

What I did for beer today

Cold crashed a blonde ale and Star San/CO2 purged a keg. Getting ready for my first time kegging. Mainly a prep/practice for my next brew - a NEIPA

    Love Golf?

Hoping to get my second round of the year (well I did an early too cold too windy 9 holes before that but that doesn't count) in tonight as long as I can get out of work at a decent time. I've been a long time part time hacker but got a simulator set up recently so I could work on my game...

    My Very First Home Brew

A nice thing about bottling is when you’re impatient just cracking one as a preview leaves several still to let wait. One of my early bottled batches I had an issue with carbonation. Some bottles were flat like yours and some just right and some over carbed. I had been thinking a lot about...

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

I don’t think using your beer as a flower vase is going to help the flavor but if it does let me know and I’ll try it “definite floral tones”

First Fermentation with a Tilt - Questions

That is definitely more like I expected. While I only had a few days at the end of the last fermentation available it was pretty rock solid consistent for SG for those few days. From a temperature stand point I don't have a good explanation for the drop as the krausen kicked off. At that...

First Fermentation with a Tilt - Questions

The fermenter is in the basement on a concrete floor and I usually don't even get within 10 feet of it. Mostly open the door to that room and wait for the BT to connect. The only exception would be the day of the krausen burp and cleaning that up but that would only be one data point. Now...
