    Hydrometer vs Refractometer

I got so frustrated with my refractometer giving different results I stopped measuring anything until it's chilled and in the fermenter and I could use my hydrometer / tilt.

problems hitting abv target, constantly above projected abv!?

Brew your next batch using 75% efficiency and see how close to your targets you are then. Adjust up or down from there.

    Using RO/DI water

$1.20 per gallon which is not bad... I use spring water from a fill your own place that has a great base mineral content to build from for .25 per gallon but would not hesitate to spend 1.20 per gallon if it was my only option.

    6.5 Gallon Corny Keg

Cleaning seems like a bit of a pain. I use a keg washer on my cornies and can pre clean by adding a little water and pouring out gunk and once it's off the keg washer I can look and verify everything is clean, not sure how you do that with a sanke, especially when it is full of yeast / dry...

    6.5 Gallon Corny Keg

I have been waiting for a 7.5 gallon keg forever to ferment IPAs. Wondering if 6.5 will have to do. If you do try it out I am very interested in your experience. I wonder if we could get a group buy together...180 seems a bit high when a new 5 gallon in like 80 now

Help With All Cascade Pale Ale

That recipe should be perfectly fine as an easy drinker. Brew it and judge for yourself if Cascade is a bit rough. I do not use it a ton but haven't noticed any harshness from it

Anyone try 10 gallon no sparge batch

When I do a 5 gallon I drop my efficiency 5 points for planning. So if I do 10 gallon batch sparge I plan 73, 5 gallon no sparge 68. Seems to work fairly well for me. One issue is adjusting the water changes around a bit with such a thin mash, so plan ahead for that in the event you need...

    Recipe Critique-Single Hopped Mosaic IPA

I am sure it has already been stated but you used way too much crystal malt and too low of lovibond...that is giving you too much sweetness. 10l and 20l are candy like in their sweetness and need to be used sparingly. For a bit of comparison, I make a mosaic pale ale all the time that hovers...

HDPE 55 Gallon Drums for brewing

I would brew for awhile before considering acquiring a 55 gallon fermenter. It is easy to get carried away early on but brewing is a lot of work. Putting together 45 gallons of wort is no small task. If you grow with the hobby and decide to go further I would all but guarantee you would not...

What is impact of mash with more than 1.5 quarts of water per pound of grains?

In my experience no impact. Not sure if you adjust your water or not but I run an occasional full volume mash and just adjust accordingly. If you do not adjust then mash pH could be a bit of a problem. I am more and more convinced that grain and water wants to become beer and traditional...

    Beer filter by gravity

Not sure if you have considered this yet, but have you researched fining with gelatin? I do not normally filter/fine my beer but if I do I use gelatin in the keg. A day or two later I have crystal clear beer. I think most use it in primary but since I do not usually cold crash I hold off...

Keeping a keg cold during a party

I converted my fermentation chest freezer into a kegerator last weekend to serve at a party. Made a "collar" with a full front and angled sides so I didn't have to mess with the lid. Worked perfectly.

    How fast?

I would say that is why we Homebrew. 2 weeks for you, 4 for me and perfect for each of our tastes.

    How fast?

Yes that is definitely possible. What was the temperature during fermentation and what yeast did you use? Remember that it doesn't necessarily mean it is done, yeast do some cleaning up when they are done dropping the gravity. I am probably a bit on the outside of the norm on turnaround time...

How to accurately compute fermenter capacity

Fyi the 1 gallon jugs are larger than 1 gallon... Weight is the way to go, it's how I measure all of my water for brewing

    Neighbors All Drink Bud Light

For me my brewing time is limited so I brew a select few styles I want. If I have someone coming over that loves Miller lite, then I am buying Miller lite, the same way I would buy different wine for guests who have different preferences. I typically say, I have this on tap and I bought these...

    Wilserbrewerbags vs The Brew Bag

Anyone know of a non synthetic option? I am looking to switch to brew in a bag or basket and for cost reasons I would love bag if there are non poly option.
