    Meat Mead

I'm really sorry but this post brought this to mind: Echoing some others, maybe some savory spices that would pair well with a steak or something? Thinking marinade but for your mead.

My Infinite Seltzer Setup (the easy way; no carbonator)

I’ve been using this lid for about 6 months now. Works like a charm. I have it hooked up to my RO system that runs on a timer (not for the keg just so the RO isn’t constantly sending water to the drain). Cycles the RO daily and the keg is always full of carbonated water.

    Cleaning after infection

How did you transfer it into the glass carboy?

    I'm about to give up.

Can't recall if you had mentioned techniques described in this thread, but might be worth checking out. Brewing Wheat Beer with Intensive Banana Aroma MAY/JUNE 2010 Zymurgy

    Andrew's Tiny xV Brewery Build

Would you really need 2 HERMS or just the capability to switch which HLT is performing the sparge? For instance once Mash #1 is complete, switch to HLT#2 to sparge/lauter while HLT#1 can be used for Mash #2 executed in MLT#2. You could even keep the capability to transfer grist from MLT1 to MLT2...

    Andrew's Tiny xV Brewery Build

So in that case, any reason to not just have 2 MLTs instead of an MLT and a LT? It would serve the same purpose that you could continue to lauter and sparge while starting your next mash. This would eliminate the need to move your grist to another vessel, unless you just really want to see if it...

    Andrew's Tiny xV Brewery Build

Not to advocate for a 6-vessel system , but you are just shy 1 vessel, 1 heating element, and some sensors from just having 2 parallel systems that you could stagger start times on. Obviously added cost, but would eliminate the complexity of needing to transfer an entire grist. And you...

Fermentrack: Fermentation monitoring & BrewPi-www Replacement for Raspberry Pi

I'll swap out power supplies and check all connections in my control box. I had initially thought power as well, but as day_trippr said I thought with those settings saved in the eeprom it was relatively safe from power failures etc. There are a few single points of failure for power on the...

Fermentrack: Fermentation monitoring & BrewPi-www Replacement for Raspberry Pi

So I've had a recent issue pop up within the last 4 weeks. I have a 4 chamber set up with a RPI 3B + 4 arduinos connected via usb. What I've been running into is what appears to be at random, one or more of the arduino controllers losing all of their sensor and pin assignments which also of...

Stripping oxygen from strike water using CO2

Steam is very commonly used in industrial plants or power plants to remove oxygen from the boiler feed water to prevent corrosion in the system. It’s run in a counter flow arrangement against the feedwater in a vessel called a deaerator. The water flows down across a series of trays to maximize...

    First pour foamy

Temp issue sounds probable then. Also I'm flattered, but I think screwing your line to your fridge was your idea. :mug:
  12. Cool_Hand_Luke

    First pour foamy

The speed of the pour still makes this seem like a friction issue, unless your glass is just filling with foam in 4 seconds vs. the usual 9 seconds. You've got the internals of your ball lock connector installed right? 10' of 3/16" should be relatively balanced.
  13. Cool_Hand_Luke

    First pour foamy

I read your original post incorrectly. Looks like you switched to smaller diameter lines (I read it backwards). Are the lines the same material?
  14. Cool_Hand_Luke

    First pour foamy

Yep. You got it. Not enough friction in the new lines to balance the pressure. Your new lines have approx 1.8x the cross sectional area. You’ll either need a smaller diameter line or a much longer hose. Do a search for draft balancing and you should find a number of threads that will point you...

    The Gruit Beer Thread

I like that idea, although I suspect the dilution might need to be 3 to 1, and I'm not sure I want to buy that much Coors. :p

Beer sickly sweet after priming and bottling - is this normal?

So it’s hard to know for sure with the limited information, but if you just racked over the top of the sugar solution there is a decent chance that the sweetness was primarily from incomplete mixing. If it were me at this point I would still put the bottles in a plastic tote to contain any...

Beer sickly sweet after priming and bottling - is this normal?

The cold was more to slow the carbonation rate down if it was going to take a week to get a hydrometer. Room temp for the gravity reading.

Beer sickly sweet after priming and bottling - is this normal?

I would HIGHLY recommend opening a bottle and taking a gravity reading. If you don’t have a hydrometer and tube, try to get one and keep those bottles really cold until you can. While it’s possible to have a beer ready to bottle in 10 days, if you aren’t practicing a number of techniques to...

    Instant chill method

I'll preface this by saying that I probably wouldn't do this myself mainly as I don't have a set up that would benefit from it, but it is possible that this technique is actually relatively low infection risk. RO water itself is not a particularly favorable environment for biological growth, and...
