    Depending on the grains i have let mine steep around 165 for about 40-60 minutes. Then add the Malt Extracts mixing as Gldnst8 says the rest..

    I use a Thief and put it in there.. to take the reading. then whats in the thief easily goes into my glass to taste.. Everytime i pull Beer out It has to be tasted best way to learn about how the beer is transforming.. other than OG readings..

    I would go for a beer as hoppy as i can make but i dont like the normal sweetness you find in many brewerys douple ipa's.. If it didnt make the beer bad i would go for it as its not a cost issue.. and the very least i would learn if its Too much or not.. I have decided to do a full Nugget brew...

    HAHAHAHA>>> :ban: Me too! But really i never EVER had a beer too bitter ... and i have had almost every IPA you can get in KS,MO,CO,TX,and Ca... Ok i will back it off alittle bring it down to about 180 IBU's i will play with the beercalculas tonight some more..

    Had to throw out a lot this year.

    They will last much longer if frozen and using a vacuum sealer too.. PLUS if you use a vacuum sealer they end up normally taking up less space..:)

    Homegrown hops - Flavourless ?

    How long from drying to the freezer did it take? I know mine still smelt pretty nasty strong..Also what did you store them in?

    Cutting back hops for winter.

    yes let them die back naturally if you try to cut them back before they have gone to "rest" you will encourage them to start growing vs go into the dormant stage..

    Last year was my first year in ground i just put about 1" of leaves over where the hops were after i trimmed them back to the ground when they turned brown and died back. We had one of the coldest winters in Kansas City in 15 years and this spring they were just flying out of the ground!
