12$ for 3 lbs of dme

Haha! Where there is competition, gambling is soon to follow.

12$ for 3 lbs of dme

Then why do I see so many profile pics of people brandishing their medals? This is a great hobby but you can't deny the high degree of competition.

12$ for 3 lbs of dme

I won't apologize for that either. I read something about Bobby from the brew-whatever. The shipping cost more but you offset it by... And then I went on to other things. Guilty as charged, no time spent investigating your connection to Bobby or his place of business, or the amount of savings...

12$ for 3 lbs of dme

You do you. I'm into bang for the buck and I make no apologies for it. I will thank you to keep your hands out of my pocket. Yakima Valley, HopUnion, North Mountain Supply and Briess have welcomed me with open arms. The best way to support the hobby is to keep doing it.

    Bugs in my malt!

@passedpawn, I actually did a thumb smash on my screen. Well played sir!

I overcarbed and also bottled my beer too early - gushers

I had some gushers before I found out that you shouldn't clean bottles with kitchen soap. Lesson learned. I opened the bottles over the sink and let them gush slowly into a pint glass. These gushed but didn't geyser. The beer smelled and tasted fine. Always a good thing when you can drink your...

Another first timer needs your advice....

I can't speak to the specifics of your plan/recipe. My best advice is to make Joe's Ancient Orange Mead (JAOM) your first foray into mead making. It is drop dead easy and almost foolproof. I've done a number of batches and it comes out the same every time, and it is very good (as meads go)...

    Super Simple Cream Ale Recipe

Honey malt? I have some on hand.

    Super Simple Cream Ale Recipe

This recipe sort of begs for tossing in some vanilla extract in secondary. Better to chase something like "Cali Creamin" than some kind of bland Pilsner/Ale-ish thing. This looks like a kind of a blank slate brew that needs something else.

    Super Simple Cream Ale Recipe

...But can it be any good? I'm used to seeing flaked corn in cream ale but this is just adding corn sugar. Here's the recipe in the description: RECIPE FOR 5 GALLONS: 11 lbs Pilsner; German 8.0 oz Sugar; Corn (Dextrose) 0.75 oz Liberty Pellets - Boil 60.0 min 0.50 oz Liberty Pellets - Boil...

What Is The One Aspect of Brewing That Is Least Important to Brewing a Good Beer? (In Your Opinion)

There's room for every type of personality in the home brew hobby. For me consistency is important. Experiment to find out what you really like to drink and then nail down the process and keep what you like on hand. Since I follow recipes from Brew Better Beer by Emma Christensen, I like to...

    first 5 gallon was hectic

I'm really happy brewing 1 to 2 gallon brews, and have no thoughts of scaling up at this point. This allows me to brew almost weekly, which means I can hone in on recipes. That's what I have done with my APA and ADA brews based on recipes from Emma Christensen's "Brew Better Beer" book. Since...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'm brewing my first American Amber Ale. I have American Pale Ale and Dark Ale under my belt, and digging them a lot, now this will be something in between.

    Sanitizing glassware

You could do a great service by providing some links to resources for better rice wine yeast. I had to buy some yeast balls from Ebay - from someone in the USA -- that really were sketchy. Not a single part of that has anything to do with any of the "-isms." You shared pictures of wine yeast...

    Sanitizing glassware

@frithy, so much the better if higher quality yeast can be found. That wasn't really my point. I'm only speaking from my own experience which would indicate that the same level of sanitization, care and vigilance used in brewing beer (air locks, StarSan, yeast sourcing, etc) isn't really all...

    Sanitizing glassware

Having made Chinese/Asian rice wine a number of times before I got into brewing beer, and before I ever bought StarSan, I can tell you that hot tap water and a clean paper towel is all that is needed and all that I ever used. The yeast balls for this kind of brew are as suspect as you can get...

    Tell us About Your Earworms

Earworms are both a blessing and a curse for me. As a guitar player I'm on a constant search for inspiration. That's what gets me motivated to practice. There's always a cool riff, progression or guitar tone out there that lights the fire. Once the fire starts to burn, it turns into an...

12$ for 3 lbs of dme

Yeah, that was a bit confusing to say the least. LOL I can confirm that it is indeed a 3lb bag. I can't speak to "meh", I've held back on commenting about that until now. Without something more specific --and to be honest it's hard to tell if I really need anything more specific. I do some...
