    Brewing in the freakin' heat?

I start brewing at 4am.. This last brew day wasn't half bad actually. My brew partner and I usually drink at least a gallon of ice tea and run a few fans. I would recommend a rolling swamp cooler if you were in a dry climate (like Arizona), but I have a feeling that would be of little relief...

Yeah, I spent a summer in Missouri.. I am pretty sure we are spoiled here. It may be hot, but at least you can get wet to cool down!

    Halfway Through First Brew

Ah, ok.. being in AZ, I am not used to that. Looked so well lit, I figured it was a garage or something =)

    Halfway Through First Brew

I hope thats just out for the picture, you probably want to keep something wrapped around that carboy. Light exposure = skunky monkey!

    Grain Crush

I recently got into all grain myself, and did a batch from my LHBS, Austin Homebrew, and Brewmasters Warehouse. My efficiency with LHBS and AHS were both sub 75% (mid 60s) but the couple I did from BMW are all 75%+ (highest was 80%). Needless to say... BMW is my supplier for grain now primarily!

Yeah, I usually rock 40-60lb of ice to get it down.. I played hooky today to brew, and grabbed 60lb of ice. There is some left over for me to ice down a few growlers to take to the pool. Oh, and yeah.. its forkin HOT out there right now! I need to start brewing at 4am from now on =(

    Keggle Question

I've never seen one without holes, and the 8 I have all came with holes in them already! There are some rare ones out there without holes in them. The pictures linked by Bender show that, given the right set of circumstances, they can build up pressure (water + heat = steam) and explode.

    Keggle Question

No, those are not the holes. Look on the actual bottom rim, there will be some little holes in it. If you lay it on its side or flip it over on its top, you will see them.

guys making 5+ gallons, larger kegs?

Yeah, as said above.. I do 10g batches. 1 batch = 2 buckets = 2 starters (or packets of yeast) = 2 corneys. Works great! I force carb one keg and naturally carb the second while I drink the first.

How many gallons at a time do you brew

10g batches for me. If I am going to spend 5 hours brewing, I want to get as much out of it as possible. My time is valuable and limited.

    Puree Problems

How did you use the puree? Did you just dump it in the bucket? What kind of fruits are you looking to use? When I use frozen fruit, I put it into small paint strainer bags (don't be afraid to use more then one) and freeze the fruit in them, inside of a ziplock. When I am ready to rack to...

    Gluten Free Chouquettes

I was poking around here looking for something different to make. My step daughter is celiac, so this was an easy choice. She helped me make them and they turned out fantastic! I have to say, I was a bit skeptical at first. They are light, airy, great flavor. I've had a lot of gluten free...

This is a first for me...

Its a hefe with a huge starter.. you are probably fine, especially if you plan to drink it young and fast.

Is brewing light beer a bit too hot OK?

Buy the SWMBO a new fridge for the kitchen.. and take the kitchen fridge and make it a fermentation chamber =)

    Martinelli cider

I don't see any reason not to use it. No preservatives is the most important part. I personally use tree top because its cheaper then the Kirkland.

    Upgrade opinions!

You mean people get paid for overtime? I am in the wrong line of work! I do agree, paying off the debt is the better choice... however, its tough to do when you still want to play. Buying the burner and the rest to debt is still a very responsible decision! You can pick up a new burner from...
