Order of Adding Water (last question)

Sweet, that's about how long I stirred it for. All done! Now I just gotta wait a week or so before transferring to the secondary. The yeast I used that came with the kit wasn't the best (didn't seem terribly active after sitting in the warm water for 20 minutes), but hopefully it'll be fine...

Order of Adding Water (last question)

After you add the cold water and yeast to the boiled malt extract mixture in the bucket, about how much do you stir it before calling it a day and putting on the lid?

Order of Adding Water (last question)

Okay, one last question before I get started. :) Most of the tutorials I've read on the web say to first boil half your water, put that in the fermentation bucket, then boil your malt extract with the rest of the water, then add your yeast (that's been sitting in warm water) into the bucket...

    Airtight Bucket?

Sweet, that was it! Although, I do feel somewhat dumb now. :D

    Airtight Bucket?

Hmmm, I think you're on to something. Upon closer inspection, it seems like the lip on the bucket is just a little too big to fit into the groove in the lid with the rubber seal. All the pushing in the world won't even get it to fit just a little. For what it's worth, the lid has a tab that...

    Airtight Bucket?

I just noticed that the lid for my primary fermenter doesn't lock into place or screw on or anything. It just sits there, is that a problem? I'm putting a three-piece airlock into the lid for what it's worth. Should I just put a heavy object onto the lid to make sure the pressure doesn't open...

Secondary necessary for a honey wheat?

I just got all of my equipment and Honey Wheat recipe kit in the mail yesterday! As I read through the instructions though, I noticed it says to ferment in the primary for a week, then siphon to secondary (where it clarifies for a week), then back to the primary (w/ priming solution) for...

I just ordered all the equipment I needed from Austin. The first brew I'll be making is a honey wheat, can't wait to get started!

    Liquids in Airlock

Speaking of airlocks, is there any functional difference between using a bubbler type and a three-piece? Is one preferred over the other?

    Greetings from Boston, MA

Really? Even with shipping and handling? I checked out beerandwine.com, but their fermentation bucket was like $16 + $10 for shipping and handling. Any cheaper places out there?

    Greetings from Boston, MA

Hey, I just signed up and thought I'd introduce myself. I live in Boston, go to law school, and enjoy drinking beer. I've never brewed any myself, but I was thinking about starting real soon. On that note, can anyone recommend a store with homebrew equipment in Boston? Thanks, and I'm...
