    Advice

OG was 1.054. Not sure about the production date on the yeast pack. Aerated it with an oxygen regulator/tank with airstone. Hear ya on the starter but have never had an issue before. Thanks! Chris

    Advice

Brewed an english bitter partial extract kit on Sunday afternoon (41 hours ago). Full 5 gallon boil and had to top off with maybe a half gallon of water. Used Wyeast London ESB 1968 for yeast (pack never really swelled). Fermenting in a 6.5 gallon better bottle with a blow off tube. Have not...

who has a dog who likes BEER??

My bully (bullmastiff) loves IPA's but that is it. I don't let her "drink" it but she gets a finger lick or two. Have to keep my eye on her or she will try to steal a lap out of my pint glass when I am not looking. So far, she has no interest in other varieties. Chris

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

Just bottled an IPA today and bottled a Hefeweizen last weekend. Hmm...so what to brew now? Irish stout to the fermenter this weekend I think. Chris

What u wish u had known

Not an expert, but wish I would have known about blow-off valves. It would have saved me from a very messy situation.

    Airlock concerns-pic attached

I have only done 7 brews so far, I always use a blow off rig until the aggressive fermentation stops. After reading about and seeing all of the horror stories here about what can happen without, it seems a good idea. While I have only had one that probably ended up needing it, it's such a nice...

Things to get for the first time

Fairly new to this but agree with the others. A good starter kit will have everything you need to get you going. While I have added things, I still use most of my original kit. Chris

Just want to talk about my first brewing experience!

I hear ya. Just brewed my 5th batch last weekend. I was just as excited to hear those first bubbles as I was on the 1st. Walking downstairs to the "beer cave" is always like Christmas morning the next day.

    Newb question regarding fermentation

Thanks for the reply gents. Room temp is approx 68 and the beer is sitting at about 67. I am not sure what kind of yeast it was other than it came with the Brooklyn kit and was in powder form. Chris

    Newb question regarding fermentation

First of all, first time doing a home brew and am using a Brooklyn Brew Shop 1 gal. IPA kit. I am now at Day 3 of the fermentation. Active bubbling ceased this morning through the blow off tube (call it 39 hours after yeast added). Directions said to change to the airlock once that happened...
