    The problem you'll run into is that even though you are doing a split batch, each batch will still be high in gravity. The idea with a starter is to have something around 1.045 that won't stress the yeast out and allow them to quickly grow. That being said, starting with 2.5 gallons of 1.100...

    Yeah, I was pretty happy that the Hydra fit in there because everything I saw of the Foundry showed their chiller sticking out of the wort. I'm sure they know thermodynamics better than I do but seemed like it was just wasting part of the chiller.

    I mean it may be ok, but could also be that something got in there that will grow once it's been pitched. I'd probably just make something new just to be safe. But next time just throw some saran wrap on top of it.

    Got my 10.5 last Friday and just tested it and the heater and pump worked great. I'm also happy that the Hydra chiller just barely fits in there and I just got the Whirly Bird arm delivered so I'm ready to give it a test drive this Friday. And I'll actually be doing the same recipe on my BIAB...

    Used Tilt for the first time

    I basically use the Tilt to just monitor how things are going. Also helpful if you want to add dry hops before halfway or more through fermentation. But my FG measured by the hydrometer is usually different than the Tilt. So I never take any actual final numbers from it.

    What kind of gap are you setting for your grain crush? Credit card width? Currently with BIAB I got the tightest gap possible and doing a double pass. I'm guessing doing that will clog it up.

    Yeah you should be fine. I've mashed overnight when I didn't feel like doing the whole brew in one evening.

    Tubing is relatively cheap when comparing it to the cost of ingredients and time it takes to brew. I'd replace them.

    Missed Efficiency in BIAB (longer post)

    The yeast has no effect on mash efficiency. It's most likely you need a larger bag. The grain should be completely submerged.
