    Any brew-software for Android?

When I search for beer in the market place, I get many hits. One of them is called Brewing Calculator. It says: Provides the following calculators: -Strike Temperature -Water heating time -Dilution -Batch Sparge and Boil Volume I believe it costs 2 pounds ($3ish?) and have not tried...

    Nottingham Yeast

I had an incident with this Notty yeast yesterday. I pitched a hydrated packet and realized something smelled funny (afterwards of course!) and then found this thread. Sure enough, the packet had a hole in it. I borrowed another packet of newer Nottingham from a friend. I hydrated that and...

    Cold CO2 Tank

Nope. It lowers the gauge reading on the high pressure side because the colder temperature actually causes there to be less pressure in the CO2 tank. This happens because there is the same volume in the tank at a lower temperature so by the ideal gas law the pressure has to decrease. Your...

    Wichita Bulk Grain Buy

Thanks. I may switch over to that if we have problems or if I get extra time. Currently this order is just grain. I considered just making everything else "free" shipping and distributing the freight only over the grain.

    efficiency

I think that 2 minutes is plenty of time. I double batch sparge and I vorlauf immediately after I stir (which takes a couple minutes) and then drain. I have been consistently getting 88 percent efficiency. My friend does not stir when he batch sparges. He is careful to not disrupt the grain...

    Wichita Bulk Grain Buy

I am organizing a grain buy with the Derby Brew Club. We will be placing the order through Mid Country Malt. I welcome anyone in the area to jump on board and get some cheap grain. We are planning on ironing out the final order around the end of the month. Here is a spreadsheet I pulled off...

    bulkhead build for keg

I'll have to defer to someone else on the chrome plating. I don't know and I couldn't find anything on it quickly. I know plain brass is ok, although some pickle it to clean the surface impurities (I haven't). There are some other threads on that. I would assume it is fine, but hopefully...

    bulkhead build for keg

I believe that is a chrome coating over forged brass. You may want to make sure that that type of material doesn't leach anything. I use a stainless Ball valve but I went with a brass nipple and brass barb fitting (because I had them). Next time I may just go all brass to save money. This...

Crazy Idea, I am sure wont work!

+1 on bad idea. Plastic buckets weren't made for the pressure. PET bottles on the other hand are.

    Adjusting IBUs

Yes, you can. It will make some difference in the taste, but perhaps for the better (more flavor and aroma). I'm a big fan of later addition hops as long as I get the bitterness I wanted. That said, I brew a lot of Pale and IPA. What kind of beer are you brewing? Someone else will...

    Isolating colonies from streak plates

Have you used the powdered Agar-Agar (such as the Telephone brand)? I used that for my last set of slants and may have went a little stiff on the agar mix. They set up pretty solid. I used 12-13 gr per 500 mL and I think I could have got by with 5-6 gr. They will probably still work, though...

anyone using the carbonator cap with 500ml PET bottles?

You can build your own carbonator caps. I'm getting ready to make a couple myself. All you need to do is mount a valve stem in the cap for the bottle. Much cheaper than buying a carbonator cap. Of course you will have to get a tire chuck and tie that in to your (future?) CO2 system. There...
