    CraftBeerPi - Raspberry Pi Software

I brewed last weekend and the plug in list was there. I just got everything set up to brew tomorrow morning and noticed that the plug in list is now gone. It stinks, because I just made myself a bit thermowell to add a sensor to my boil kettle, but I cantcget the plug in to use it!

Native ESP8266 BrewPi Firmware - WiFi BrewPi, no Arduino needed!

I had my sensors connected to 5V and noticed that the temperature kept creeping up. I touch he'd the sensors and they were getting HOT. I moved them over to 3.3V and everything straightened out. Weird.

    CraftBeerPi - Raspberry Pi Software

I spent a few hours using auto tune for the CascadePID and thought that I had it all set (I used plain water). The next weekend I tried using it for my brew day and it was a mess - temperature fluctuations like crazy. I brewed last weekend using just s tuned PID on the HLT set 5 degrees higher...

    Did I get dead Lacto?

Thanks for the tips, I appreciate it! I'll give it another shot next weekend, maybe.

    Did I get dead Lacto?

Ah, so the recipe is flawed... Darn it all.

    Did I get dead Lacto?

Yes, I hopped at the beginning of the boil, just as the recipe calls for. I wondered about the temperature, myself. Actually, I worried about every part of this up until brew day. I was going to kettle sour, but then listened to Jamil's podcast and his method sounded do darn convincing!

[Version 2 Release] RaspberryPints - Digital Taplist Solution

Interesting, I don't remember running into this issue.

    Did I get dead Lacto?

A couple of weeks ago, I brewed up a Berliner Weisse following Jsmil Zainasheff's instructions/recipe in Brewing Classic Styles. I added the yeast and Lacto to the fermenter at the same time, per the book, and fermented at 67 degrees. I just transferred to keg yesterday and am extremely...

[Version 2 Release] RaspberryPints - Digital Taplist Solution

You're not alone in your frustrations. I just set mine up on a brand new Pi following RandR+ instructions:

Native ESP8266 BrewPi Firmware - WiFi BrewPi, no Arduino needed!

I wonder if a solenoid valve could be made to work by having it open and close in pulses that would increase in frequency, effectively shooting a small charge of cold glycol through the coil once a minute, twice a minute, 4 times a minute, 8 times a minute, etc. Edit: OR, what if you just put a...

Native ESP8266 BrewPi Firmware - WiFi BrewPi, no Arduino needed!

So, really, what needs to happen is a throttling of cold glycol flow almost like setting the heating element in a kettle to 30% power to maintain a temperature rather than having it cycle at 100% and have spikes. Unfortunately, I don’t know the practicalities, but a valve with a controllable...

Native ESP8266 BrewPi Firmware - WiFi BrewPi, no Arduino needed!

I don't know why I was thinking that the ESP/Fermentrack had to control the temperature of the glycol reservoir, too.

Native ESP8266 BrewPi Firmware - WiFi BrewPi, no Arduino needed!

Could the glycol issue be solved with a CascadePID? I'm thinking of it like a HERMS coil in an HLT, but cooling instead of heating (it's just a heat exchanger, either way). YoudYhave an inner and outer loops to tune.

    CraftBeerPi - Raspberry Pi Software

Okay, I saw a note from a while back that the timer wouldn't work right if the Pi wasn't connected to the internet to get the correct time from a time server. That doesn't seem to be the case here. I think somebody broke it in one of the latest updates.

    Fermentation Temperature

I keep my house around 60° F in the winter. I usually ferment in the high fifties to low sixties. I'm usually chilling the fermenter for the first couple of days while the yeast are really going to town and generating heat.

    CraftBeerPi - Raspberry Pi Software

When I first set my brewery up a couple of months ago, the timer was working fine and the buzzer went off every time I had to add hops. Something has changed within the last few months to cause the hop timer to stop working. It's very frustrating. Is your Pi connected to the internet?

[Version 2 Release] RaspberryPints - Digital Taplist Solution

No pressure, @Thorrak It's been kind of fun trying to get it to work - I've learned a little bit about programming (I just don't have the mind for it; my brother is a whiz!). I did end up following the steps 4 instructions on GitHub and replaced the 5s with 7.0s and everything went well up until...

[Version 2 Release] RaspberryPints - Digital Taplist Solution

@kaljade what are you using for load sensors and how do you have them set up? I noticed that your calculations are included in RandR+ fork. I think I'd rather go that route than flow meters. Thanks!
