Controlled fermentation temps. How are you doing it?

Many good ideas here. Is the STC-1000 the consensus controller these days? In essence, it seems as if a solid chamber can be built from a used chest freezer or mini fridge from CL andn an aquarium controller for less than $75... I might even be able to get that past my wife (assuming there...

What to Sample -Ohio Surrounding States

The list is great! Thank you! I've heard of a few, but most are new to me. Specifically, from Ohio, I've tried Mad Tree, Triple Digit, and and least one other than I can't remember the name of right now. I'm moving to Cincinnati specifically, but I'm planning on many out-of-town beer...

    Who drinks commercial beers?

I really don't mind drinking a few Yuengling's now and then, and will purchase a case just to have something cheap around. However, in most cases, I would rather slowly drink two great beers that together cost me 4 dollars than four poor beers quickly that cost me 3.75. I will drink pretty...

So.. your neighbor comes by and drinks one of your beers...

I've had this problem. However, my thinking has changed. I now focus - I do this to brew beer that I like, and to find the best recipes for me. I will, however, go out of my way to brew something my wife likes, or at times I will brew something in style for friends or family. However...

What to Sample -Ohio Surrounding States

I've only got a two short months until I am a Ohio resident. What are some are MUST TRY breweries in the state, and your favorite brews there? Why do you like them? What are the coolest places to tour?

How many gallons of homebrew in 2014?

    Guiness is Overated

I credit it with helping me to think "outside of the BMC box". Plus, when I was in college, drinking it made me look "cool" (saaarcasm). Really, though, it did get me away from drinking BarleyRicePeeWater (no beer snobbery here, right?), and led to the wonderful beers I drink today. I...

Day-Off-Extra-Stuff Belgian IPA - To Dry Hop, or Not?

All of that makes sense! I'll remember that with the Warrior - I had it on hand, and wondered whether I should use it since it is such a high acid bittering hop. I'll also be interested to see if any of the yeast characteristics come through. I wish I was a bit more experienced at picking...

Day-Off-Extra-Stuff Belgian IPA - To Dry Hop, or Not?

I had some left-over grain sitting around that I wanted to use before it got stale, so I made a throw-together IPA yesterday on my day off. I thought I would "play", go for a full-bodied mash with sucrose to lighten it up and boost abv to go along with a Belgian Strong Ale yeast. I've also...

Tap-A-Draft small scale beer dispensing system : A review

Dyqik: I actually just had this happen again two days ago, after my review. I lost pressure, so I added a new cart. It was in there all night with no issue, and I hadn't touched it during the night or in the morning. Howver, when I got home form church and opened the refrigerator, there was...

Tap-A-Draft small scale beer dispensing system : A review

Great recommendations, cluckk! I did something two days ago that I'm enjoying now, but I may regret later - I rolled up a big mesh bag with 1/2oz of whole leaf Warrior and forced it into the neck of one of my TAD bottles filled with really bland pale ale. We'll see if I can get that back back...

    Hello from NC

Welcome to the forums! I also live in NC, though I'm about to move. I've learned more from this place than most of the books on beer I've read (thought I just got three more books today... hopefully I'll learn a bit more!). Use that search option and have fun!

    A Homebrewer's Mission Statement

I think for me it comes down to reminding myself why I'm doing it. I've been doing a lot of plotting and scheming as far as equipment and technique are concerned. During that time, I started thinking about all of the glorious upgrades I could sink my money into. Then it struck me: what are...

Glass carboy... breaks... 5 gallons gone

The thought of this makes me sick. I haven't used glass in about 5 years, three of which I wasn't brewing :) I have no reason other than I have children around and I move a lot - neither of which are conducive to glass... anything. I am sorry to hear about the time and effort you've lost...
