My first label for my first brew!!

When I saw this earlier today, it sure put me in the mood for a blueberry wheat! If you are going to keep posting labels like this, your are going to have to start sending out free beer to your buddies here... ;)

    Samuel Adams Boston Ale?

If you are considering WL Irish Ale yeast, it will also give a slight fruity taste. My stout has a fruity taste not found in Guinness. It doesn't taste bad, but I have never noticed a fruity taste in Sam Adams Ale.

    recipe for gout

I have no experience with this, but a couple of thoughts off the top of my head: 1) Keg your beer and let the pressure from the CO2 tank do the carbbing instead of yeast and sugar in bottles 2) Do a long period in the secondary to really let the yeast settle out 3) Maybe a crazy idea...

    Bottle grenades

The only way that I know of to check them, would be to open one up and see if there is an excessive amount of foam. Like if it starts spewing everywhere. Eleven days in the primary is a decent amount of time if it wasn't a high gravity brew, but if it was me, I would have waited until the...

    Questions about winemaking

Yes, that is a good thread. I don't know about 18 months. Like I said later in the thread, another person was loving his Stag's Leap (same kit) after being in the bottles 20 days. Six months plus sounds like it might work. It just depends how sophisticated your palate is. Mine isn't when it...

    Questions about winemaking

The kit makers like Winexpert use pure varietal grape juice and concentrates, from different regions around the world. The lower end kits have more concentrate in the juice (requiring more water). The higher end kits are almost straight varietal juice, with just a little concentrate mixed in...

    Weekend Brewer closed on Sunday?

From here: Good food! Now I know you thought it was a kind of topless/strip club, but it's not..... ;)

I think I want to give wine a shot...

Caplan... there you are! Thought maybe Condi Rice and Jack Straw, took you along with them as a chaperoneon on their surprise visit to Baghdad ... lol I didn't think I had seen a name for the foam when fermenting wine. Thanks for the info. I do have another question for you. How...

I think I want to give wine a shot...

From here: http://www.winepress.us/forums/index.php?showtopic=1011&st=30 "Degassing comes next. There are several ways to do this. One is with a drill powered attachment called a Fizz-ex. Be gentle with this device to start. It will cause substantial foaming. (Sorry, no pic) Another way...

I think I want to give wine a shot...

Where's that crazy Brit Caplan at when you need him?? Probably off bowing to the Queen or something.... lol The reason I ask, is because I have no idea what the foam is called. Caplan?? My batch took 24 hours or so to start fermenting. Yours is fine. I'm past my initial ten day...

Bulkhead fittings from Home Depot/ Lowes?

Well, I ordered one of the Weld-B-Gone bulkhead fittings (along with a SS ball valve and barb). It's exactly as you described. They sent an extra o-ring. From the pictures online, it looked like you use two of them. Nope. Even Zymico wasn't too careful threading the connector on to the nipple...

    Weekend Brewer closed on Sunday?

The closest one to me is also closed Monday/Tuesday. There is another over in Fort Worth, but they are more expensive. A dollar more for 3 pound bags of DME and kits, etc. Their books are more expensive, too....

I think I want to give wine a shot...

Walker, How is the wine doing in the 6.5 gallon carboy? Is the inside of your fridge the color purple? ;) Yeah, I suppose making kit wine can be a little less fulfilling. You might feel differently after you taste yours. Or you can think of it like following a gourmet recipe, and producing...

    Coopers Lager...problems

That's comforting! Thanks. I used extra light DME and only did a 15 minute boil, because the extract is already hopped. I did toss in a 1/2 oz of Northern Brewer pellets, for the last ten for some aroma. The brew isn't as light in color as I expected from a Draught, but it sure is a nice copper...

freakishly high gravity in my oatmeal stout...

Maybe someone at Austin Homebrew accidentally doubled the amount of extract they sent you. Hey, even with your OG, it is going to be a tasty brew.... and it sure shouldn't be weak! I think I could live with it... ;)

    Brewing Kits

Welcome to the forum. Can't comment on your kit. I started with the Coopers Micro-brew kit, and have since added almost everything under the sun to it. The Coopers kit cam with a video. There is one hot Aussie babe in it. Does your kit come with a plastic secondary? If so, it should be fine...
