    GF American Blonde Ale Recipe

actually if you can get above 163F for the first phase of the mash, that's gonna be pretty good. Then low 150s for the remainder. I'd say plan on at least 2 hours maybe 3 total. This beer had crazy high attenuation (finished 1.004) so I'd suggest making the second mash step shorter, say 30-45...

Hey all, just an update on this Blond Ale. I entered it for review on The Brewing Network's Dr. Homebrew show, you can hear all about it and get non-gluten-free drinker's takes in episode #78. Cheers! http://www.thebrewingnetwork.com/category/shows/drhomebrew/

    First Mead In the Fermenter

Well, pushing about 3 weeks on the mead. the D47 fermented out completely in about 8 days. Amazing! finished right at 1.000, 13.9% ABV. Added 4 lb of mixed frozen berries last week, and just added 8 more lbs of berries. Tasting really nice and beginning to clear. See attached pic!

    First time using Bru'n

The primary items of concern are calcium (>50ppm) and getting your mash pH lined up. What you have looks good and none of your other numbers are too high, so id say go for it!

Stalled Fermentation? WLP-017 Whitbread Ale in Special Bitter

Well it finished up about 5 days after the second yeast pitch at 1.012. Gonna keg it up today. Glad i pitched more yeast, but curious if it would have attenuated without. Cheers!

    Blichmann BrewEasy

Huh. 30 amps should be plenty to run that coil to a vigorous boil. I'd be in touch with Blichmann on that if you haven't already. Remember the hop blocker requires a post-boil whirlpool to be effective prior to draining...see recommended process on the "features" tab here...

    Blichmann BrewEasy

I just pump it out and down the drain. I use a brush or rag to wipe down the kettle as it drains, then fill it with clean water and run that out to rinse everything. Then if there's any particulate left in the kettle, I just rinse. Usually there isn't anything left at that point.

    First Mead In the Fermenter

Well it is now day 5 approaching the 114 hour mark since pitching. Still chugging along at 64F, SG is down to 1.020. Pitched my final nutrient addition yesterday morning. Took a sample this afternoon and it is tasting nice, if a bit prickly from the co2 in solution. Ive been monitoring...

    Blichmann BrewEasy

Yeah, definitely a bit of a learning curve. Glad you found Dana's videos. He's been a pioneer on this system. Background: I've got the 5 gal system, but principles should be the same. 1. The size orifice you use for draining after the mash should have zero effect on how much is left in the...

    Blichmann BrewEasy

Yeah the cable is very poorly designed. With heavy duty cables everywhere else on my 240v system this thing is a dainty PITA!

Looking to upgrade from glass carboy for fermentation

+1 for the brewbucket. I liked mine so much i bought a second. Cleaning is a no brainer and not near the hassle i thought it would be.

    Blichmann BrewEasy

In my 5 gal system, i use a half cup of pbw in a full kettle of water, turn on the pump and coil and run it for 1-2 hours at 180F then let it sit overnight. Cleans it right up. Try it...it works!

    First Mead In the Fermenter

Well my first mead is in the fermenter. The plan (at the moment) is to do a straight semi-sweet mead. 3 gallons of RO water, 11 lb of clover honey, 2 packets of D-47. OG on 4 gallons was 1.097, target FG is 1.015. Rehydrated both packs of yeast in a GoFerm solution, and after it had a...
