    Which refractometer should I buy?

I'm looking at buying a refractometer that is accurate with a dual-scale, and where I don't have to do crazy calculations. I was looking at this one at morebeer.com http://morebeer.com/view_product/18739/102226/Brewing_Refractometer_With_Brix_Scale should I go with this at $59 plus shipping...

Delirium Tremens clone questions about fermentation.

I did an extract clone 4 weeks ago of Delirium Tremens with an OG of 1.085 from "Beer Captured" using Wyeast 1214 Abby. The instructions say to transfer after a week to a secondary (I did it around 11 days) and bottle when fermentation is complete, target gravity is reached (6 weeks). Prime...

Diaceytl rest, is it time yet?

I actually took a look at the airlock 5 minutes after posting this, and it seems to be going now at around 5-6 per min, so I think I'm ok. Thanks again for all your help!

Diaceytl rest, is it time yet?

Well today I did a hydrometer reading and it was 1.008, so racked it to the secondary. I'm just really concerned about the large head space in the secondary as there doesn't seem to be much co2 activity going on. Should I replace the airlock with a regular stopper to absorb some co2? Or just...

Too much headspace for lager in secondary?

Did you have any airlock activity going?

Too much headspace for lager in secondary?

Should I be worried about contamination with the sugar without boiling it? Or should I boil some water? Should I use an airlock or standard plug?

Too much headspace for lager in secondary?

I just transferred a 5 gal recipe from a 6 gal better bottle to a 5 gal better bottle, and there seems to be an awful lot of head-space. It goes from one inch above where it says "better bottle" on the carboy all the way to the top. I'm beginning the lager phase right now. Is this something...

Diaceytl rest, is it time yet?

So I've been doing the Diacetyl rest since friday (3 Days), and there seems to still be some Co2 with 1-2 bubbles per minute in the airlock. Right now it is at 68 F, and tomorrow is day 4. What is the longest I can do a D-rest for without picking up off flavors? If I still notice co2 activity...

True Brew German Style Light-Alternative yeast???

Would you use two packs of the yeast or just do a starter?

True Brew German Style Light-Alternative yeast???

Hi, I have a true brew Kit of German Style Light, and was wonder what a good alternative to the Muntons packet of yeast given in the kit would be? Should I use a Lager yeast, or use something like us-5 yeast which I have plenty of. Which Wyeast would be good for this kit...

Diaceytl rest, is it time yet?

I didn't use a starter, so I guess that could explain the huge lag-time.

Why is it so expensive to ship beer?

We can't get Pliny the Elder on the East Coast for some reason anywhere. I guess they say that these smaller west coast microbrews don't have the capacity to produce for the demand. It's a beer that I'm thinking of doing a clone of, so I wanna try it.

Why is it so expensive to ship beer?

The only place online that I could find with Pliny the Elder, that ships out of state. http://www.qualityliquorstore.com/ Russian River Pliny The Elder I'm almost wondering the heavy shipping charges is a mistake.

Why is it so expensive to ship beer?

I paid more for shipping than the cost of the actual beer. Did UPS all of a sudden get expensive? I can't imagine that 4 bottles weighs a lot.

Why is it so expensive to ship beer?

I recently did an extract clone of the Alaskan Smoked porter, but have never tried the original beer, so I ordered it online along with Pliny the Elder, Blind Pig and Fat Tire. These are all beers that are not available on the east Coast. The shipping and taxes for four bottles was $28. WTF...

Diaceytl rest, is it time yet?

Yeah it was pretty much over 30 hours before I say any activity. I had it at room temp as well in the beginning. I did pitch the yeast at a low temp, slightly below 60F.

Diaceytl rest, is it time yet?

So, I guess I'm exactly right on schedule right? Original gravity was 1.040, target gravity is 1.010, right now I'm at 1.017. I've read a lot to do the d-rest at about 2/3 of the way towards the target. Is this correct? Is 60F a good temp for the first day of the d-rest or should I go...

Diaceytl rest, is it time yet?

Thanks again. I have raised the temp in the wine fridge to 60. Airlock is moving a little faster and krausen is slightly higher. Did I do it too soon? I'm guessing this is perfectly normal to get A slight increase in c02

Diaceytl rest, is it time yet?

    OG was 1.040

Diaceytl rest, is it time yet?

Should I go two days for the D-rest. How do I know when to stop? I didn't taste a lot of buttery flavor like I expected. You transfer to secondary after the d-rest, right? Also, in the lagering phase where should my temps be at? I here lowering it gradually, but to how low? My wine fridge...
