Man, if I had a dollar for every SNPA I've ever drank, I'd be a rich man! :drunk:

    World Beer Fest--Durham, OCT 7th

Here's a link to their webpage. Loose Cannon is about half-way down. Man, that was an intense beer! Wish I'd tried their other beers at the festival. http://www.clippercitybeer.com/home/beers_heavyseas.htm

    World Beer Fest--Durham, OCT 7th

What's your hangover recovery process? Mine yesterday consisted of the following: two cups coffee, two antacids long, slow run in the rain hot shower two trips through the Indian buffet two hour nap By 4pm, I was feeling like new! Hey, it was great seeing everyone Saturday!

    Where is your thermostat probe?

Mine's just hanging in mid-air, about 12-15" from the bottom of the freezer, and 6-8" from the side wall. Seems to work fine.

    Who's brewing this weekend?

Congrats on breaking out the gear! This was supposed to be a brew weekend (was going to finally brew the hefe), but my wife surprised me with ~3200 lbs of granite blocks in the driveway, which need to be moved to the backyard to build a raised bed planter. Ugh. I moved about a third of it...

    What to do with Willie?

Get in line. Here in NC, we just over-turned a 201 year old law against cohabitation. In another 60 years, we'll join California in the 21st century! :ban: http://www.newsobserver.com/662/story/462833.html

    Mead Beginner

I'm also a beginner, having just started my first batch of mead yesterday. You could try what I did, and order a kit. I ordered a kit from Northern Brewer (a raspberry melomel), and it's working out fine. Do you have any brewing equipment? If not, you'll need a few things (fermentor...

    USB scales

That's so 80s. Gotta use the Java version. ;)

    USB scales

Yeah, this would be way cool! I'm concerned about the weight limit: we need a scale that goes to, what, 60 lbs? I'd be thrilled with 1oz precision, happy with 1/4 lb precision. But my fridge is in the basement, so I need a tiny computer to serve the data. Best case would probably be a...

    Half-yards at Costco!

A good friend who was at Oxford told me once that the trick is to twirl the yard while drinking, so the beer is forced up onto the sides of the glass. That empties the bulb without a big splash!

to boil or not to boil

Okay, panic averted. I came home and looked carefully at my hydrometer, and I'd read off of the Balling scale. Reading across to the correct scale, I get a temp-adjusted OG of 1.107. :off: I have a question about the raspberries, though. The kit came with two big cans of puree, with...

to boil or not to boil

Hmmm. Looking at other mead posts and OGs, this can't be right, right?

to boil or not to boil

I just started my first mead (a raspberry melomel actually) this morning, and I went with the no-boil method. The 12 lbs of honey disolved much easier in 2 1/2 gallons of room-temperature spring water than I'd expected. I used about 2 cups of near-boiling water to rinse the last bit of honey...

    There can only be one...

This is easy: 1. bear, no contest. 2. possum. no contest. 3. ill-formed. We need to know "salt or fresh water?" 4. eagle. Duh. 5. Two-fer. Both die, win-win. Let's hope it's on pay-per-view! 6. Have to go with Dude here. Never heard of the other dude. Must be Formula-une, not...

    Video Games

I played LSL on an original Mac in 1985 or so. That was my second computer. The first was an early model TRS-80, around 1978. Still have both machines, in pristine condition. Although I do have trouble reading programs from those damn cassette tapes...

    My First Smack Pack Attempt

Yeah, I make starters as well, but I think it's mostly a fetish -- I just love to watch the starter bubble away! It's ALIVE!!

    Preferred browser?

I use IE. Too many websites just don't work with other browsers. One thing I've learned about MSFT is that they're like the Borg -- they eventually incorporate whatever is good about the competition. Sure, I'll have to wait a few months for those cool Firefox tabs (and no, I'm not running no...

Hop Rod Rye? More like Crash and Burn

Obgeek: Yes, all this was much clearer in Kurosawa's 1958 film, "The Hidden Fortress".
