What I did for beer today

I rebuilt my biermuncher bottle filler and successfully bottled a six pack of stout. Pregamed for tomorrow's brew day, collected water, added salts, crushed grain. Checked the new plumbing for leaks.

    White Labs Yeast Vault

So a brief update. The Hansen brought the FG down to 1.014 on Thursday evening, measured again last night and it was at 1.013-1.012. I expect this to finish at 1.010 so it's getting there. However a taste of the hydro sample was very surprising, the residual sweetness when tasting Thursday's...

    White Labs Yeast Vault

Yeast is something for me that I'm prepared to spend money on resupplies. I've tried my hand at yeast ranching and I don't find it to be worth the effort compared to making a starter for each brew day. So I'm not disappointed in the purchase per se, I've tried other regularly available yeasts...

    White Labs Yeast Vault

They were warm in the mailer yes. I made up a small starter and had it spin for about six hours before pitching so whist it may have been a small under pitch hopefully that should have been somewhat compensated for. FWIW the starter was actively fermenting a couple of hours after pitching, and...

    White Labs Yeast Vault

Can't say I'm too impressed with the Hansen blend so far. Brewed a batch last Saturday and pitched one vial into oxygenated 5 gallons of 1.040 wort. As of today it's still sitting at 1.014, and is still fermenting. WLP007 would have been done with this by now, so hopefully the flavour is good.

    Bru'n Water help

Don't add chalk it doesn't dissolve. Stop worrying about the calcium. You need to hit your chloride and sulfate levels, so long as you don't have a ton of sodium in your water or something like that the sulfate and chloride are all that you need to target

    Bru'n Water help

You'll get calcium from the malt too which should help you hit targets even if you can't measure it

    Need replacement SSR and advice

How are you powering the panel itself? If you are feeding it from a 30a breaker in your main panel then you don't need to duplicate that protection in the panel.

    another foamy beer question

Longer lines are a lot cheaper than flow control faucets. It sounds more like the OP may have a temp stratification problem though. If the beer is out gassing in the tubing then it's likely that there is a temp differential between the lines and the keg. OP: do you have a circulation fan in...

    Bogus PIDs and SSRs?

The 20% derating only applies to continuous loads which is a load applied for more than three hours.

How can I ensure my ball valve is set and maintained properly?

Similarly mine is on the inside, which I believe is what the instructions dictate.

How can I ensure my ball valve is set and maintained properly?

You shouldn't need anything more than what was supplied with that kettle. I've also got an SS Brewtech kettle and it seals up just fine with the provided hardware. If it's not leak-tight, tighten the fitting further. Make sure you have teflon tape on all your threads, and do a leak test with...
