BIAB and consistency / quality issues

I realize the beer is supposed to be hazy, lol, thats not at all the problem. The problem is 1/2 the time they are murky, greenish puke color. Not a nice orange/yellow juice looking beer. Tasting them at that point leaves a horrible taste in your mouth for a long time. I am trying to understand...

BIAB and consistency / quality issues

NE IPAs are not supposed to sit around that long. Hops and aroma will be long gone. Also I reach FG within 4-5 days regardless of the issue. And it is again the issue of why do some batches have the issue and not others? I would think it should be fairly consistent with same process and...

BIAB and consistency / quality issues

Hello. I have some questions. So I have been brewing for about a year now. Been doing BIAB just about the whole time. I have a 20 gallon kettle and use a bag and hoist. I am in the early stages of planning to build an electric brewing setup and i am trying to decide on what path to take...

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

For people on a 3 vessel HERMs, do you just hook this up to the boil kettle or also the HLT?

    Conical users...when to dump??

Well I am not at FG on day 3-4 but close. I like to remove the first wave of trub prior to dryhopping. I do also do another one after cold crashing before racking. Sometimes I might even do one just prior to cold crashing to see how things are going with regards to hops dropping out. I find I...

    Conical users...when to dump??

Usually 3-4 right before adding dry hops. But will probably depend on the yeast you are using and how quickly it works.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Perfect day for my Stormy Weather Pale Ale! 6.2% Ekuanot and Mosaic. Have my first NE IPA Milkshake in the fermenter. Interested to see how its going to come out. Then a Trillium Melcher Street clone on deck.

My first brew appears to have a second krausen?

I use WY1318 all the time. That is way too hot. Should be between 64-74. Ideally 66-72. That is probably dry hop matter on top but you probably have a little fermentation left.

Doubling Down: SS Brewtech Conical + FTSS + Glycol Power Pack

"I also have thought all along the "selling point" of the uni-tank is an all-in-one system. I am producing "finished" beer in my uni-tank eliminating the need for brite tanks and the like. I transfer carbed beer into kegs for serving, but if I chose, I could also condition and serve directly...

Doubling Down: SS Brewtech Conical + FTSS + Glycol Power Pack

I used the pump because I set the Unitank and the keg to the same PSI. Finding the right PSI is not always easy. To much can cause foaming. Not enough and its a frustrating process to move the beer along, constantly adjusting on one end or the other. With the pump it went at a steady pace the...

Doubling Down: SS Brewtech Conical + FTSS + Glycol Power Pack

"How did you cap off the unused port on the Blichmann kit?" I got a 1/2" PVC cap. It did let some pressure out so going to try a different fitting next time. But still worked well.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

So I just kegged my latest NE IPA. Up until a few days ago I thought it was not going to be good. It was still muddy and had a strong gross aftertaste. 2 days later it is the clearest beer I have ever made, not on purpose. It is not quite as fruity and hoppy as usual but it as actually a solid...

Doubling Down: SS Brewtech Conical + FTSS + Glycol Power Pack

So I just did a transfer using the new method from the video I posted above, it went perfectly! Easiest transfer since I started brewing. Usually its the most frustrating step, but this was great. So here is what I did. 1. I set the PSI to as close as possible between the tank and the keg. 2. I...

A couple questions first time brew

Hello all. Looking to brew my first batch of this stuff this weekend. Honestly never heard of it but I guess my daughter really loves the stuff and she will be home from college this weekend so going to brew some with her. Can I just use my standard sanitizer I use for beer brewing? I assume so...

Thanks. I did not know you could set chiller lower than 26. Will try that.

Doubling Down: SS Brewtech Conical + FTSS + Glycol Power Pack

Question. Anyone have the 14 gallon unitank and the glycol chiller try and do a 5 gallon batch and cold crash? I have it set to 34 f but it will not go below 41 f. Wondering if that is the limitation for a 1/2 batch?

Tilt - Does it replace hydrometer?

I am using mine for the first time. I have found the temp to be very accurate, its always exactly what my FTSs is set to. The gravity jumps around. Its usually fairly consistent but I had a couple days where it said .9997 or so. Also jumped up and down between 1.011 and 1.007 the last couple of...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I love hoppy beer. But when I tasted horrible greenish samples in batches last year even time in the keg did not really help. Again other batches with exact same ingredients and process would come out great. It was honestly like a 50/50 thing. I had to throw away a few full kegs because they...
