    Brewing Salts in Herms HLT

So I'm preparing to brew my first batch on my Herms system. One question keeps popping into my head. I use RO water for some recipes and add my brewing salts into my strike and sparge water. What is your process now? Should I adjust all the water in my HLT to one profile and just use the same...

    Help with new controller build

Update: So I ordered a contactor from Amazon. They have a different brand so I gave that one a try. Plus the fast shipping. Got here last night, and packaging (contactor thrown in the envelope with no box) was horrible. I opened it and heard something loose inside. I processed the return and...

    Help with new controller build

Thanks Doug, I went over the wiring once I finished the panel. It looks like I followed the instructions but I thought maybe there was something I missed.

    Help with new controller build

Nothing that I could see. I haven't checked the contactor from the pump yet. But I ordered a replacement anyway. Work is taking me out of town for 2 days. First thing Friday will be to get the new one wired in. I'm going to go over the wiring once again. Can it be that I wired something wrong...

    Help with new controller build

So this morning I decided to just go ahead and order a new contactor for the main and one for the pump. I tested the resistance on the main contactor and with the switch on (breaker power was off) the contactor circuit would close between numbers 3 and 4. When I tested numbers 1 and 2 there was...

    Help with new controller build

Thanks for the reply Doug, I tested the voltage and there is no power on those wires. I should note that I'm not using the L14-30 plug, I am using the California style connectors due to my system being 50 amps. Also I didn't piece everything together, I went with the Auber Brew Buddy DIY kit...

    Help with new controller build

Hey guys I finally finished building my herms controller. I went with a 50 amp 2 element controller. It has 2 pump controls with constant on/off/auto. Today I finally powered it on just to see if everything is working properly. I had a lamp connected to one of the pump controller outlets. They...

    BrewBuddy II HERMS build

Your system looks great, I am in the process of converting my brewery as well. I also went with Spike kettles. I ended up having to make holes for the elements in mine. I went with Brewhardware weldless tri clover bulkhead. Also went with the steam slayer so I can brew without having my garage...

Using the HLT HERMS to chill the wort

I think you'd be going through tons of water that way. I will be using a plate chiller, but I plan on filling my HLT with ice water and using that to pass through the chiller in one pass. This way should only use about 10 gallons of water and a 20 lb bag of ice.

    Wanting to switch to electric

If I was buying I'd go with the High Gravity system. 15 gallon pot in my opinion is perfect for biab 5 gallon batches. You'll have plenty of space for hot breaks and have the option of brewing a bigger batch as well as higher gravity beers. I would also go with the Blichmann pump upgrade as the...

    PID controller

Thanks for the input guys, I've been spending most of the day on Auber's website. After much consideration I've decided to go with the EZ boils. Mainly because two of the most respected users on here recommended them. But also because they seem to have so many features built in. My original...

    PID controller

Thanks @augiedoggy I was planning on just buying it built but I find that I enjoy the process of building it myself. I did look at the EZ Boil controllers and wasn't sure how much different they were. I believe the Omron has manual mode and thought it was the same. Do you think the EZ Boil is...

    PID controller

I’m working on getting a parts list together for my brewery controller. I am using Kal’s Electric Brewery instructions. But in his kits he uses Auber PID’s and I want to use Omron. I really like the look of them. I’m wondering if anyone has any experience with them. I know the model is E5CC, but...

Average Pricing to Install 240v 30 Amp Outlet

$525 seems a bit high. I was quoted 350 for a 50 amp, and 2 20 amp circuits. That didn't include the permit fee but that should add about $75. As others have stated make sure you use a GFI breaker, sure it adds about $75 but do you want to risk a loss of home or life over it?

    Which eHERMS controller?

The Omron brand PID's have a cleaner look to them compared to the Auber which has been the standard. Auber does have a long history of quality though, not sure on the Omron, but it isn't the most expensive part to replace if needed.

    Which eHERMS controller?

Nice, I was looking at the ebrew supply controller and really like the emergency stop feature. But not for an extra $500. When I'm ready to order I think I'll reach out and see if they can add that feature. I like the look of the Grounded cbrewing controller as well, and those PID's look amazing.
