    Interesting German Brewing PDF

Yes, I have exactly two kegs that I like to keep full (or ready to fill) at all times, since beer (alcohol in general) is incredibly expensive here. I'm not willing to go that far for this process yet, and don't really have the resources to purchase more kegs atm.

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

Ok, so it turns out that some guy here bought a 25kg (!!) sack of sodium metabisulphite. He's basically sending it around to anybody that wants some if they pay the cost of shipping. So I can get about 200g for about $6. Seems like a good-enough deal, as if my bath is right (25mg/l * 30l per...

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

I meant that the pH is quite a bit lower than expected, which is what I meant to type asking about the measurement mid-mash. Just forgot to type that part apparently. What I meant by can't see the "chemical reactions" was that the expected pH was say 5.32, and the measurement at 30 mins was 5.1...

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

haha, I guess that was pretty vague. Meant to type pH. I already got pretty bad efficiency from doing full-volume mashes. I used to squeeze the hell out of the bag, and even tried crushing to basically flour, and still couldn't ever get huge bumps. Yeah, I guess that makes more sense then...

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

Do you guys take any measurements during the mash (for those that don't have super fancy setups)? I'm now on my third batch of just trying to dial in a process of minimal splashing. (I've explained that I'm just hoping to see some results, even though I'm not going full-on LoDo just yet.) On...

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

haha if only. One day I do want to have a fairly similar setup. Until then, I'm stuck with the equipment and budget that I have. If a lot of the contributors to the original LoDo pdf concept have similar setups, I now completely understand how it was so often repeated that a subpar batch...

damn dude. that's a hell of a set up.

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

Sounds pretty lame. Looking forward to seeing the process. From what I could tell from the video screenshot you have lots of nice equipment.

Also, rabeb, I really wanted to check out that video that you posted up there, but it seems to be blocked for my area of the world. Is that something you own or is it posted through a different channel? It'd be cool to be able to watch it.

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

Yeah I could tell that a bit of it was because of condensation, but in that particular picture, the non-lodo was much clearer than the lodo. As I said, I'm convinced, but the problem is I just don't have the money to get my equipment completely to where it needs to be - mainly on the cold...

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

Beer looks great rabeb. Much better than the pics on one of the last links you shared that showed the difference in color between lodo and non-lodo. I'm still following along, although as I've said, it's not quite possible for me to go full-on lodo right now. But I will say I've started...

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

That one is buried deep into these pages, though I'm not sure it's actually been measured. Just used some simple math according to how much o2 is in the bottled co2. By force carbonating you're adding significantly more of the small percentage of o2 as compared to doing it naturally. Eventually...

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

I'm still following along this thread, and on my past few batches have attempted to lower the amount of oxygen intake during the entire process. I did start to doubt while I was in the states, so I didn't buy any metabite there... after seeing the lowoxygenbrewing site, and the side by side...

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

Assuming one has followed the rest of the steps, except the spunding, will naturally carbonating in the keg still ensure complete LoDO? (Also assuming the racking was done properly)

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

But then are you guys saying none of the traditional German breweries are doing decoction anymore? That was one question of mine never really answered: several that I talked to in Prague said that all the good Czech breweries are still using decoction. Urquell was one of those mentioned as...

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

Ok I'll have to look into cutting it down. I won't be able to brew for a little over two weeks. Once I can get to that point, it'll attempt to go as LoDO as possible with my setup, and then post the steps here so you guys can show me where it's likely still getting ruined! It'll be a hoppy...

Could you just hook up a small hose and a qd to a syringe and effectively do the same thing? (For those that can't unscrew their prv)

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

Yeah basically I submerge the entire lid into the starsan solution. I believe as far as the keg itself goes, with the lid off, that where the lid sits is the high point. Is it not? So once it's overflowing with water I wiggled/slightly tilted the keg a bit to the sides to make sure any air...

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

Oh yes I thought of another question now that I had in my head while reading through the thread: I haven't been to Germany so maybe it's different, but I have recently been to the Czech Republic. Everyone I talked to there said that anyone making traditional light lagers or pilsners are doing...

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

I appreciate some of this advice, and especially that you took the time to respond to such a long æss post! As I said, however, I don't have the finances (nor the space in my tiny apartment) at the moment to make big adjustments to my set up. So I suppose I was looking to see if anyone had any...
